    KANON, Joseph. Los Alamos
NY: Broadway Books (1997). His first novel, a thriller set during World War II in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the site of the program to develop the first atom bomb. Winner of an Edgar Award for best first novel. Fine in a fine dust jacket, and signed by the author KAZIN, Alfred. Correspondence. Seven typed notes signed , six from the period 1984-1985, one from 1991, all to an editor at magazine. For the most part, these are brief, one-sided parleys in a charmingly cantankerous tone, e.g.: "I have to say I like you better than I like yr mag. I have carefully measured the bed in that page photograph of the Roosevelt house and what with the various Victorian bric a brac it comes to 276 inches longer than my poor piece, which has so much interior decorating added to it that it should have been signed by Emily Post..." One note is signed "Isaac," a joke on an earlier barb on Isaac Bashevis Singer having been misidentified in the magazine. Envelopes are included; other than mailing folds, the lot is fine. KENNEDY, William. Typed Note Signed.

    INGE, William. Bus Stop.
NY: Random House (1955). The first edition of this play, which became the basis for a memorable Marilyn Monroe film. Owner name; near fine in a near fine dust jacket with a bit of dust soiling and a tiny chip at the top edge of the front panel. A very attractive copy. Inge was the author of Come Back, Little Sheba and Picnic , which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. IRVING, John. The World According to Garp . NY: Dutton (1978). The author's fourth novel, and his breakthrough book, reprinted numerous times, a multi-million copy bestseller and National Book Award winner in its paperback release. Foxing to top edge; spine roll; dampstaining to crown; a very good copy in a good, price-clipped dust jacket with internal dampstaining and tape repairs. IRVING, John.

And it is by pursuing these scraps of information, by stitching them together with records and hearsay, that I have managed to sew a threadbare blanket covering those years between the swaddling clothes and the shroud. Sure, there are holes and patches sewn in from other cloth but, hopefully, there is enough to comfort you during this journey through the life of Gerald Kersh.
    Painful
Born on August 6th, 1911, in Teddington-on-Thames, Gerald Kersh grew up in a Jewish family full of "characters" who were to provide a rich and painful source of literary material in future years. Kersh was a bit of a character himself. At the age of 2, pretty little Gerald became very ill. His mother sat up with him for 10 days without sleep, and then his heart stopped beating. The doctor pronounced him dead of lung congestion. Suddenly, he sat up and screamed the place down. At the age of 8, Gerald started writing, publishing his prize-winning work "Tom And Tilly Tadpole" in a limited edition of one, bound in his uncle's brocade waistcoat. At 13, he won a scholarship and attended the Regent Street Polytechnic, eventually leaving to make his own way in the world. He knew what he wanted to be: a writer. Kersh wrote to Edgar Wallace. His five page letter reproached Wallace for his success, challenged him to read the enclosed short story which, Kersh claimed, was a better story than Wallace could ever write and, in the same breath, asked him for advice. Edgar Wallace replied politely, if briefly, through his secretary.
