Robertson Davies
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Robertson Davies August 28 December 2 ) was a Canadian author Growing up, Davies was surrounded by language. His father was a newspaper man, and both his parents were voracious readers. He, in turn, read everything he could. While Davies spent his first twenty-three working years at various newspapers in small town Ontario, his first passion was for the theatre, which is where he met and married his wife, Brenda. He was a playwright and director for many years, in England and Canada Davies later became the Master of Massey College at the University of Toronto His greatest novel is probably Fifth Business (1970), a curious book which draws heavily on Davies's love of myth and knowledge of small-town

That year he married Brenda Mathews, a woman he had met at Oxford, who was then working as stage manager for the theatre.

Contact Us For Mac The rebel angels by Robertson Davies Review from New Republic, 03/10/1982: "One of those novels that impart a good deal of informationas well as entertainment to the reader....it is a work of impressive vigor and vivacity, which no addict of the campus novel will want to miss." David Lodge Review from Newsweek, 02/08/1982: "Much of this dialectical novel is fascinating and witty, but some of it gets to be pretty heavy sledding." Review from Quill and Quire, October 1981: "A novel of trappings and stage props, tinsel crowns and ketchup blood, pseudo-erudition and pseudo-mysteries; it is a ponderous vehicle for ideas and, worse, ideas that are by no means lucid in their exposition. Despite all the endless talk by intellectuals and Hollier's supposed Faustian anguish, the novel fails even in suggesting the passion of the life of the mind." John Metcalf Synopsis: A fantasy of life in a small Toronto college. The plot revolves around the theft of an ancient Rabelaisian manuscript from the college library, and the efforts of the various factions within the faculty to recover or overlook it.
