B i r B e a t R i c h a r d B r a u t i g a n Richard Brautigan (1935-1984) Beat akýmýnýn Allen Gingsberg ve Jack Kerouac'la beraber en önemli üç isminden biridir. 56'da 'Ýkinci Krallýk (The Second Kingdom)', bilinen ilk þiiri yayýmlanýr. 57'de Virginia Dionne Adler'le evlenir, 59'da 24 þiirden oluþan ilk þiir kitabý 'O Mermer Çayý Koy (?) (Lay the Marble Tea)' yayýmlanýr.

Richard Brautigan was born January 30th, 1935 in Tacoma, Washington. Little is known about his childhood except that it was a troubled one. It was something he didn't discuss. It's rumored that he didn't know who his father was and that his father wasn't aware that Brautigan was his son until the announcement of his death. It's also rumored that at around the age of twenty, he threw a rock through a police station window and as a result was committed to Oregon State Hospital where he was diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic and given shock therapy treatments. He moved to San Francisco, California in 1955 where he became part of the Beat movement almost immediately. “The Second Kingdom,” his first known poem, was published in 1956 and his first book, "Lay the Marble Tea", a collection of 24 poems, was published in 1959. These two publications "bookended" his marriage to Virginia Dionne Adler in Reno, Nevada, June 8, 1957

Richard Gary Brautigan
Born on January 30th, 1935 in Tacoma, Washington, little is known of his childhood but it is rumored it was a troubled one. Somewhere around 1955-1958, Richard moved to San Francisco, California and became involved in the Beat Movement In 1959, Lay the Marble Tea was published (his first published book ). This was a collection of 24 poems. In the late 1960's, Brautigan began to gain popularity and during this time, published several of his most popular works ( Trout Fishing in America, All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace, In Watermelon Sugar, etc. ). During 1966-67, he served as the poet-in-residence at California Institute of Technology. In 1972 or '73, Brautigan moves to Pine Creek, Montana and allegedly refuses to give interviews or lecture for the next eight years. In 1982, So the Wind Won't Blow It All Away is published. This will be his last published book because in 1984, Brautigan committed suicide. His body was discovered several weeks later on October 25, 1984. The 49-year-old author's body was found next to a bottle of alcohol and a .44 caliber gun. There was evidence that he died of a gunshot wound. One year before Richard committed suicide, the author, following clues in The Tokyo-Montana Express found Richard's ranch in Pine Creek, Montana and was invited back for coffee the next day. This is the text of that meeting.
An excerpt from the book.
I go back to my car. There is a road a little ahead to the right that rounds the side of the property. I drive slowly. As I turn the corner I can see behind the house. There is a short field in front of the barn. It's fenced in with barbed wire. The grass is cut. My eyes widen at the wheelless hulk of a black Thunderbird. There are two people lying on the shiny hood. I recognize him at once: Richard Brautigan and a beautiful, but not oriental brunette. Wasn't his wife in Tokyo-Montana Express oriental? Was he divorced already? Or was it just a story? They are drinking white wine from large, long stemmed glasses. As I pull over staring, the light of the afternoon seems to be caught in the pale yellow of the wine. They look up at me. My heart's hammering, holding my copy of Tokyo-Montana Express and shaking slightly, I get out of the car. Price $29.95 Brautigan,Richard, A Pilgrimage, 1982.
