    Extractions: This well kept walnut radio cabinet stands 9" tall and its base is 12.5x22". The front panel is a wine colored bakelite with beautifully tooled bronzed plates decorating the tuning wheels and knobs. The interior is very clean with original instruction charts intact on the back and inside lid. This is a very fine example of the last of the best TRF battery operated sets of the 1920's. "This photo is of my own set, this is an MU-1 from late 1926, and was in my opinion the pinnacle of the Synchrophase. This set is completely original, with original dark mahogany finish and in the finest working condition.     Extractions: Radio Pioneer Succumbs To Operation Funeral services for Alfred H. Grebe, 40, radio pioneer and president of the Grebe Radio and Television Company, Manhattan, will be conducted at the residence, 88-89 195th Place, Hollis, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Mr. Grebe died yesterday in Post-Graduate Hospital, Manhattan, following an illness of 10 days. He had undergone a stomach operation. He was for some years president of the Atlantic Broadcasting Corporation and built WABC, now the key station of the Columbia Broadcasting System. He was born in Richmond Hill on the site now occupied by the large manufacturing plant which is still surmounted by the radio towers he used in his early broadcasting. The property, which then ran from Jamaica avenue to Archer avenue, along Van Wyck boulevard, was acquired by his grandfather.

He was sent to Leipzig at 15 to continue his studies on the violin and in composition. Here, he came into contact with many of the great masters including Grieg, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Strauss. Upon his return to the antipodes, he became a leading conductor and teacher. He eventually settled in Sydney where he was a founding professor at the Conservatorium of Music. He remained active as a violinist, violist and conductor. He retired in the 1930's and dedicated himself entirely to composition. As a composer, he was prolific. Because he did not keep track of his works with Opus numbers, it is impossible to be sure of his total output. A catalogue compiled by Allan Stiles lists more than two thousand titles including ten operas, nine symphonies, four string orchestra symphonies, five concertos, overtures, tone poems, two ballets, film scores, marches and a wide range of choral and solo works. His Chamber music compositions include seventeen string quartets, and many miniatures for strings and piano. Hill took a keen interest in traditional music from all over the world. He took a special interest in the music and legends of the Maori. His Cantata 'Hinemoa' was the first of many compositions dedicated to Maori culture. 'The Sacred Mountain' is associated with Tongariro and Tuwharetoa, one of the ancestors of the Taupo tribe.
