    Extractions: She has studied at CCNY, at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, College of New Rochelle, Westchester Art Center and Art Students’ League. Joan was also an adjunct professor at the College of New Rochelle as a supervisor of student art teachers and responsible for a practicum and observations of the students. Recently retired from teaching, she now is focusing on her creative aspirations. When just a child, she began sketching and painting. Through the years, she has experimented with a variety of media including photography, pen and ink, oils, acrylics and watercolor - and most recently works primarily in watercolor. Her watercolors are also available as computer generated prints on watercolor paper (most sizes available up to 11" wide). In addition to creating her own works, she is very interested in doing computer generated personalized subjects suitable for framing. For example, if sent a photo of your house, car, boat, etc., an artful image which looks like a painting of it will be created. Then, if desired, photos including people in or in front of their house, car, boat can worked leaving only the people in photo form. Also, if photo of people is separate, the people can be superimposed in a window, in front or anywhere on the resulting creation.

I don't distinguish between representation and abstraction, and am not bound by historical trends and tradition. I choose freely to use a variety of materials and methods. I like to paint common subjects including abstract, portraits, Bhuddist images, still life, and animals. I feel novel subjects and strange or unusual things don't last long and what is in vogue is only temporary. I find interesting meaning in ordinary subjects. For instance, I find it beautiful and enjoyable to paint even a small stone. I always observe nature and express my feelings through my work. I strive to work without losing my vitality. My outlook is always changing and I am ever looking for new things to observe and express.
