5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
My three year old son looks at this book over and over.It has nice colorful pictures of a wide variety of trucks. We like this book so much that I give it at baby showers.Highly recommend this book if you have a truck lover.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's Favorite Book
My son loves this book, and likes trucks and tractors, so this was a pretty good bet he would love it! He carried it around for months, now as he is getting older it is also nice, because he can start to sound out the words and figure out how to spell the item by what it is listed as. Good Book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture Book!
I borrowed this book from our local library and renewed it several times as it is my grandson's favorite. Now I own it and don't have to borrow it. The colorful pictures are presented nicely on each page.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book, but too similar to its counterpart "Trucks"
I am writing this review as just an FYI. We own the Roger Priddy/Bright Baby "Trucks" board book. I bought this for my son's 2nd birthday and am planning on returning it. It seems like a great picture book, but all of the pictures from "Trucks" are scattered inside this book, so it's like owning a bigger version of "Trucks." If you don't have "Trucks," than this book is just fine and has excellent pictures. There's a big 80s era van labeled "minivan," which is a little off putting, but the book definitely seems like a keeper for a little truck lover. My son is craaaazy about trucks, but the similarities to the smaller edition "Trucks" is just too much, otherwise it would be a keeper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
My grandson loved this book when he was younger, loved the pictures and could name the vehicles in no time!I just purchased this for a friend who is expecting her first boy and hope he enjoys it as much!Great pictures and durable book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gift for 3rd birthday
I bought this and the Demolition book by Caterpillar; my grandson loves them and has the text nearly memorized, and can identify the trucks and diggers by name.Definitely a hit, and the sound effects seem authentic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diggers!
This is a great book for digger lovers! It has very realisic sounds and good photos. Both our kids love it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Perfect
Although my 2 and a half year old son normally loves these kinds of books, this particular one didn't live up to the test. My son is not a rough kid, but when the sound stopped working after only half a day he easily tore the sound panel from the book. The watch type batteries couldn't be replaced so we had to throw that part away, but still have the book. There are better made sound effects children's books out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars authentic sounds
Perfect book for 18 months+.The sounds are very realistic. The signs are easy to follow, although the color of the signs in the book differ from the color of the 'noise' buttons. However, my 2-year-old grandson wasn't confused.

5-0 out of 5 stars lots of fun for little truck enthusiasts
Our three-year old loves this book. Each spread features a full-page photograph of a big construction vehicle at work with text on the facing page. The wording is exciting, e.g. "Climb up in the cab and start your engine!"and interspersed throughout are symbols that correspond to pads at the right margin of the book. When your child presses the appropriate button, the story comes alive with the sound of a truck starting up, a horn, a digger scooping dirt, a backing-up beep or a jackhammer. The sounds are realistic and pretty clear.Your small truck devotee should really enjoy this exciting book. ... My 3 year old son who is obsessed with all things related to fire trucks LOVES this book. He loves the photos of REAL firetrucks. The book gives children a chance to read about fire trucks, parts of fire trucks, and the equipment carried in fire trucks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best "woo-woo" book ever!
My 2 yr old son is a lover of"woo-woo's", which is what he calls fire trucks. So this book was a must have after borrowing it from the library. It's a good sturdy book with pages full of images/photos of real fire related machines. The information is accurate, but he doesn't listen to the info about the trucks, he just likes to look at the pictures. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Great grandson loves to read to his parents. He was so proud that he could read this book, with a little help.I ordered other DK Readers for him too.Children need to read and be read too.

4-0 out of 5 stars I am a big fan of DK early readers
They're simple. They're informative. They're cheap. If your child is too young to read, they're perfectly good read-aloud books.

What more can you ask for when stocking your kid's library?

My nieces are special fans of this one. They get very into it every time the truck driver falls into one form of trouble or another.

5-0 out of 5 stars DK does it again!
Truck Trouble is a top-notch story for young children about the day's activities of a truck driver. Children will be captivated with the details of a driver's life, even sometimes sleeping in the little cab of his rig.

The book provides a picture dictionary review of all important terminology, and the story's end shows how John the driver's job impacts the lives of others.

5-0 out of 5 stars John's Truck
This is an excellent book for three and up.My son enjoys the realistic pictures and the engaging story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Truck Trouble no trouble for little ones!
I bought this book on a whim one year ago when my daughter was 3 years old. I wasn't sure if she would like a book about trucks. The first time I read it to her, she fell in love with it. She loves the pictures and storyabout the truck driver, his life in his truck (complete with bed), and histroubles on the road. 5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!!
We first found this book in a library many years ago when my oldest son was around 4.The rhyming is addictive, and pretty soon he had memorized the whole book.I've been looking for it since we moved away from that library system and was thrilled to find it on Amazone at a reasonable price.Any young child and especially boys will love the animated way the author talks about tow trucks. My youngest is now 6 and he is constantly looking at the pictures (which are bright and engaging) and repeating the rhyme over and over.A wonderful book for reading aloud!!(My 9 year old is so thrilled to have this book in our library now as we've said the rhyme to eachother for the last three years without having the whole book) - a truly wonderful addition to any children's library)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Read
Found this book in a pile of used books. One of the best books ever! We've been reading it for 6 years and my 8 year old still loves it as much as his 4 and 6 year old brothers.I will read it over and over and never say "no".I've tried to find it to give as gifts but it's almost impossible. If you see it - grab it.I'll keep this book forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars How Many Trucks Can A Tow Truck Tow
My son obtained a soft cover of this book when he was three years old. This was his favorite book EVER! I remember reading it to him up to three times a night. There was not one night that went by we did not read this book.

Now he is a teenager and I thought it would be fun to obtain a hard cover copy, that he could eventually share with his child. He loved it... in fact he even read it again!!!

I highly recommend this book to all little boys.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful!Worth tracking down a used copy!
I wish this book wasn't out of print!I was given this book in 2001 when I had my first child.I instantly loved it.The text is rhythmic verse and is so fun to read in an expressive voice. After several readings with my baby, I could recite most of it by memory. This is the story of a tow truck that gets called out to help other tow trucks that have broken down, eventually pulling 3 in a row behind him!Not realistic, but very cute! The tow trucks are personified and have very expressive "faces."The pictures are very vibrant and attention-grabbing.A sample of the text:

"Well... once fine morning I'm all alone,
when a call comes through to the office phone.
The big tow trucks are working in town,
helping out cars that have just broken down.
I think, "Uh-oh! Some car needs a tow."
I switch on my brights and off I go.

With my red lights turning
and my blue lights winking
and my headlights burning
and my green lights blink,
I race to the place
and what do I see?"

And, you'll have to get the book to find out!And seriously, do get the book if you have young children or if you know young children that you could give a gift to.I love this book. When our first copy wore out, I bought another one used, as it was by then out-of print. My children are now 8, 6, 4, 2, and 10 mths, and I expect to have to buy another "new" used copy in the next year or so.I did just buy a copy to give as a gift to my nieces and nephews, and I am sure they will love it also.

3-0 out of 5 stars How Many Trucks can a Tow Truck Tow?
A wonderful book!My sons are young adults now and I can still resite the story in my head.Bought the used books as baby presents, it's my favorite baby boy gift!!! The book was not quite in the shape I thought it would be in, but it's still better than not having it at all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This is a great book for a small child. My son received it as a gift when he was one year and we've probably read it almost every day since then (he's 18 months old now). It's cute and clever and is more fun to read than other truck books due to the rhymes. The pictures are great - fairly simple but with lots of recognizable items to name and point out (e.g. mail truck, horse in the parade, dogs, etc.)We also got the author's book on trains, but I like this one MUCH better.

5-0 out of 5 stars super cute truck book
I love this book!It is very cute and great story about all the trucks the little boy loves. When our son was 2 we got a video of him "reading" this book since he knew it by heart. Now we buy it for friends' kids since it is such a hit in our house.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just a few pages...
...but each one cleverly illustrates types of trucks and vehicles in their settings. With primary color illustrations, this boardbook has friendly people figures and enough detail to keep a 6-18 month old intrigued.Perfect for introducing vocabulary and creating awareness about details in their context.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much-loved book; does indeed contain H and I
My 2 year old absolutely love this book.He totally gets the humor of corn cars and pickle cars.Small, sturdy, just right for little hands. My son wishes the book had wheels itself and zooms it around as if it did.Our copy has the letters H and I, along with all the other letters of the alphabet, so I don't quite understand what the other reviewer was complaining about.

5-0 out of 5 stars great for young toddlers

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet story of faithful friendship and loyalty...
This book is just great! I never get tired of reading it to my son. We liked it so much that I looked for the read-along cassette on eBay and now even when I'm cooking dinner or cleaning, he can just pop in the casette (the story is also available on CD) and he can still hear it. This story is great- really encouraging for little kids. They learn about overcoming lonliness and finding the stength to carry on when sad or afraid. It's just a great book with an equally great story-line!!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Keep your lights on the road!"
This is another one of those library books we took out and ended up buying a hardbound out-of-print version from an Amazon bookseller. It is that cute and that memorable. In fact, I meant to check 5 stars, but I can't go back and edit my review now - Oh well, no matter, 4 or 5 stars, this book is a winner.

My son just loves this book about the friendship about a big, nurturing farm truck and his friend, "Little Truck", a smaller little farm truck. The two work together on Farley's Farm hauling produce to market on market day. When Big Truck has some carburetor problems and has to head on off to the shop, Little Truck is bereft, but grows by leaps and bounds the two days Big Truck is gone when he learns to be self-reliant, all the while remembering all the things Big Truck taught him about driving in the rain ("keep your lights on the road") and how to get out of the mud ("Easy!Go easy").When at last Big Truck returns, Little Truck is brimming with pride as he tells him how he remembered all that Big Truck could do. And what does Big Truck say after Little Truck tells him all he remembered and how he took care of himself in Big Trucks absence?Big Truck says, "I knew you could do it!"What a great message for children. The trucks seem like people, and Big Truck is the older, wiser, supportive friend or parent who nutures and supports.

It's a cute one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating picture book about the life of a farm truck
Big Truck and Little Truck is a story about two humanlike working farm trucks who share a relationship very much like father and son.Big Truck "taught Little Truck everything he knew" about carting in crops from the fields and how to navigate the big city roads on the way to the Farmer's Market each day.One day, Big Truck is unable to start up and he has to be towed away.Little Truck is worried for his "dad", and frightened of the big tasks ahead of him to be completed for the first time alone. Will Big Truck come back okay, and will Little Truck do a good job on Farley's Farm all by himself?

We have had this book for about 3 years and two little boys now.I don't know how little girls would react to it, but we love it so much that my older son who is turning 6 soon still asks for it.The two year old has recently discovered how fun it is to look for the whimsical details within the larger pictures, such as the chicken family, the cat, and all the other little residents of the farm.

This is a very warmly and brilliantly illustrated picture book for preschool aged children. It speaks to them in a clearly recognizable analogy about the fears kids may have to face if a parent becomes sick or has to be away for a short period of time, and the story shows how Little Truck coped beautifully with his own situation. The bonus is that Big Truck and Little Truck model a great work ethic with lots of love.
-Andrea, aka Merribelle

4-0 out of 5 stars adorable drawings, great lesson, fun story
Little Truck wants to be like Big Truck and learns from Big Truck. But when Big Truck goes off to get fixed, Little Truck is nervous about doing well on his own. When put to the test by an emergency, Little Truck does well.Big Truck is proud when he comes back.Unlike this review, the story is well written and quite charming.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep your lights on the road
My son, who is now 6, got this book right after he turned 2. In these 4 years we have read the book hundreds of times. It has never lost its appeal nor has he outgrown it. The story is complex (to an adult), it has love, drama, adventure, a strong work ethic and a happy ending.

I have always wanted to write to the author and the illustrator to tell them how timeless and wonderful the story and the illustrations are but more importantly, if only to myself, I wanted to let them know that for 4 years now my son has only called me Big Truck. That's become my name, my whole family calls me Big Truck, my son's friends call me Big Truck. The last time I heard the word "Mama" come from my son's lips was a week after he got the book. I told my husband I want "Big Truck" on my tombstone. To say the book has been influential in our home is an understatement - and we love it. ... Read more

My son got this book for Christmas last year when he was 5 yrs old and still likes to draw from it.This is a great stencil book for boys that love trucks and construction equipment, encourages those fine motor skills.I only wish that I could find more similar to this to add to his collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even keeps my highly spirited child occupied
My son, who loves trucks of all kinds, received this book as a gift.Because he is only 3 1/2 years old and can't keep still for a minute, I didn't think this book would keep his attention for very long.I was wrong. He loves this book.I worked with him on doing the stenciling for awhile, and then he just started doing it on his own. There are some trucks with parts that are quite intricate and even tricky for an adult to stencil, but that doesn't matter. When he saw the parts he stecilled, he was very excited about what he accomplished.Coloring in the finished products are fun too. There are ten stencils in all and each stencil page describes in quick detail the various parts of the equipment. When you turn the stencil page, it overlaps the real picture of the truck and is followed by a brief description of it.I think as my son gets older, he'll even enjoy it more. This book is quite a unique gift for a boy, or girl for that matter.I highly recommend it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Book for Boys Who Love Big Trucks
I purchased this book for my three year old son who LOVES trucks and books...so the combination is a hit. It's a paperback book so probably not very sturdy for many, many readings. It has good information and covers many different kinds of construction sites and the trucks that run in each. The pictures are realistic and colorful. It's not great writing but for kids that are crazy about trucks, it's a good one given the price.

My 2 and a half year old enjoys this book very much. Very informative, accurate but easy to understand info on how these great machines work, and what their jobs are. My hubby likes this one, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars My 2-year-old loves it!
My 2-year-old studies the different types of construction trucks on these pages for long stretches of time -- it totally entertains him.We bought this book because it was his hands-down favorite library book, and I got tired of renewing it.I didn't know if he would like it at first because the pictures weren't that impressive to me, but he absolutely loves it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great idea, details aren't accurate
Just a note that everything in this book is a "truck" - my 3 year old knows better. The pictures and idea of the book are great, but it was obviously either written by someone that does not have a feel for the details or it was dumbed down for the audience. There are better books out there for the 3 year old audience presenting the material accurately yet at the proper level.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
Great book. Very realistic pictures. My son loves it and has read it everyday since he got it. ... Read more

Product Description

Nothing stirs the blood like the flashing lights and blaring siren of a fire truck racing to fight a blaze.  The action photography in this book captures that excitement in all of its forms.  In powerful, on-the-scene pictures and text, author/photographer Shapiro explores the special techniques and equipment brought to bear on fires in cities and suburbs, rural outposts and wilderness, in homes and industrial structures.  He also takes a close look at hair-raising rescues and other “non-firefighting” tasks that firefighters find themselves facing.  From bold photography and detailed descriptions of fire fighting to close-up looks at the fire house and its full array of equipment--trucks, ladders, pumpers, and tankers--this book conveys both the technical nitty-gritty and the fiery action of meeting and containing one of nature’s most brutal forces.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview
This book covers several generations of vehicles, so by nature it is generalist and cannot be too detailed. It does present particular areas to pay attention to in the various generations, so it is an excellent resource for someone who is investigating the prospect of buying one of these older classics. There may be resources that target a particular model or year more intensively, but for a broad overview of these vehicles, there's none better than this!

2-0 out of 5 stars A model 90 Jimmy 1500 Owner's eview
A very shallow book trying to cover too many years and subjects with so little number of pages.

2-0 out of 5 stars A General Look
This book provides a good history about all chevrolets and gmc in the years mentioned. However for a person looking for specific information on one particular chevrolet/gmc pickup this is not a good book. All otherinformation is very general and if you have worked with vehicles youalready should know it.The book did not satisfy me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for Chevy and GMC light trucks
This book is a excellent all around guide for those wanting to know more about the popular Chevy/GMC C/K series of light trucks.Author gives useful information for those rebuilding, restoring or maintaining one ofthese trucks (as well as for those looking for good model years to buyused).Interesting read and offers more than the usual information foundin Haynes reference.

Product Description
DK presents exciting new covers for 13 of your favorite Ultimate Sticker Books: Animal, Baby Animal, Ballet, Bug, Bulldozer, Dangerous Dinosaurs, Dinosaur, Ancient Egypt, Farm, Pony, Shark and Whale, Space, and Truck. Annotated with factual information, each book contains more than 60 full-color, reusable stickers so children can create their own fun scenes.Amazon.com Review
This "do-it-yourself truck book" offers a simple task foryoung truck lovers: match the different truck stickers to the righttruck outline in an 8- page booklet. Each of these blob-like outlinesfeatures a short (15-30 word) caption, such as: "Sharp teeth: Theenormous mass excavator scoops up earth or rocks in a bucket attachedto its long arm. It then empties the load into a dump truck to becarried away." And thus the hunt begins for a mass excavator among thefour removable pages of color-photo stickers! The brightly coloredstickers are (to some degree) reusable, and mostly they are between aninch square and 3 inchesby2 inches. There are about twice as many stickers asoutlines, so that even a child who really does complete the book (bymatching all the outlines to the stickers) will have plenty left forthe even greater satisfaction of sticking decorative trucks onto face, furniture, and Fido. But let's be realistic: most children will notcomplete the book, and will prefer to treat this simply as a greatsticker source. Why not? (Ages 3 to 6) --Richard Farr ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Comparing 2 Truck-sticker books
I am comparing 2 similar books: one is Truck (Ultimate Sticker Books)by DK Publishing, 2006, and the second is Sticker Activity Trucks (First Learning) by Roger Priddy, 2003. While both are Truck sticker books for children, I give the first a rating of 1 star, and the second of 5 stars.

My toddler was given the Priddy one first, and the experience was fantastic. After he finished to put all stickers in place, I bought the DK one for him. The experience was terrible and frustrating, so I bought a second copy of the Priddy one.

They are both similar in that they are sticker books for children, they have a comparable number of pages, same format, and roughly the same printing quality. Price is close in range, Priddy is close to $6 dollars and the DK is $7 (15% more).

Contents are dramatically different though. Priddy is best in all accounts of design and pedagogy. Pages are color coded, trucks have identifiable names such as "mail truck" or "tractor"both under the sticker and on the page where it supposedly goes. DK on the other hand has a very poor 1-ink green printing on the pages where the sticker go, there are no matching names on the sticker page, and placing page, but instead a long description of some obscure fact. DK has no identifiable names either, but rather opts for a series of pickups with big wheels that where part of such or such race. In quantity Priddy also wins, with 100 detailed images, versus 60 for DK, but the most important of all differences is in that while Priddy includes a shadow image of the truck, on the page where the kid is supposed to place it, DK places a shadow of the sticker, not the truck, which has a lot less detail and resembles a cloud more than a truck. There were many trucks for which we could not even find a placeholder, and I am much older than 3 or 4, for which this books are recommended.

I am considering using these two books as an example of how to solve a book-design problem correctly, or get it all wrong in a class if the subject is appropriate. My spouse who is more accommodating suggested they could do cards with the stickers of the DK book that were not too ugly, but they could not find 24.

The buying recommendation is obvious in this case: buy a Priddy instead of a DK, unless you have a passion for retrofitted pick-ups.

As for us, we are extending our skepticism to all books published under the DK seal, and will look instead for what other ones Priddy has to offer.

3-0 out of 5 stars only a few pages
Thought this book would be thicker. Perhaps in my last minute shopping frenzy I didn't read the fine print, but it is much thinner than the sticker books I have purchased in the past. I would guess less than 10 pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Son Loves the Red Truck. Parents Do Not.
This book is a huge hit with my two and a halfyear old son. Lots of words describing noise, but mostly...a big red truck coming to the rescue. There is virtually no story line and the actual words that are used to tell the story are not even complete sentences- something that my son does not notice or care about (obviously) but that drives me crazy. It's a very short bookwhich is good, because we read it multiple times over and over again.

I bought this book used and got it dirt cheap, and the book was in great condition. So I went ahead and gave this 4 stars because my son loves it, even though the lack of sentence structure drives me crazy.

Any car, truck, digger, "things that go" fan will probably love Red Truck. Can't guarantee that parents will though :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
We got this book as a first birthday gift for my son.It quickly became a family favorite.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved by our 2-year old boy
I checked this book out of the library for my 2-year old son, who has a fascination for anything with wheels. He immediately took to it so much that I simply had to buy a copy for him after returning the library copy.

The text is simple and lively, with several sound effects throughout, like SPLOOSH! and VROOOOM!Even better are the illustrations by Valeria Petrone, who I find to be a delightful children's illustrator. We've since checked out several other books drawn by her, but none have been quite as charming as Red Truck.

Very interesting book. The photos and text complment each other.Easy to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buff Stuff
This survey is well written and very well organized. I found the photos of trucks pre-1940 to be especially
interesting, although i would have preferred to have viewed more contemporaneous shots with period backgrounds
as opposed to photos of restorations, taken -of course - years after manufacture.

As the genre goes, this volume is very satisfying. ... Read more
