Excerpt: Mbabane (Swati: ), with an estimated population of 95,000 (2007), is the capital and largest city of Swaziland. It is located on the Mbabane River and its tributary the Polinjane River in the Mdimba Mountains. It is located in the district of Hhohho, of which it is also the capital. The average elevation of the city is 3,800 ft. The population (estimated) in 1987 was 30,000. The town grew after the nation's administrative centre moved from Bremersdorp (now called Manzini) in 1902. It derives its name from a Chief, Mbabane Kunene, who lived in the area when British settlers arrived. It is also a commercial hub for the surrounding region, while tin and iron were mined nearby. Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Swaziland," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Swaziland in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Swaziland when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Swaziland, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Product Description
The dismantling of the apartheid regime in South Africa caused massive transformation in both geographical and economic terms, not only in this country but also in the region as a whole. As the post-apartheid government enters its second term, this captivating volume assesses its progress in unravelling the geography of apartheid, both in South Africa itself and in its relationships with other countries in Southern Africa and Africa. It also considers the ways in which South Africa, now that it is no longer a pariah state, has begun to position itself within the current global economy. Examining South Africa's land and agriculture, mining and minerals, manufacturing, tourism, corporate finance, the labour market and transport, the volume discusses the challenges of balancing growth and redistribution, the extent and nature of progress, change and relationships within the regional and global economy. A compelling investigation into the economics of South Africa's neighbouring states in relation to their natural resources, colonialism and inter-relationships with themselves and with South Africa leads to a focus on the region as a whole and its relations with the global economy. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lets Get it Back in Print!!
This is a wonderful book. I have been trying to buy it; however, I did not know that it was out of print! I am in college to become a teacher and I wanted this book for my classroom. I have read it to other classes and the children absolutely love it. I agree with Nila ~~~ We need to get this book back in print! This book is interesting and it is great for teaching a geography lesson as well. After I taught a lesson using this book, the students were still talking about it two weeks later. One day it was raining outside, and one little girl mentioned that she was glad that she didn't have to walk to school like the kids in Swaziland have to do. This is a book that the students can relate to in many ways. I hope to see this book back in print in the NEAR future. It seems to be such a waste for a wonderful book such as this to not be in the classrooms for the students to enjoy!! It is Fabulous and people of all ages Love it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Learning to Swim in Swaziland
A captivating glance of life in Swaziland from the eyes of an American child! Many interesting facts, along with crayon drawings and photographs, about an African country will surprise, shock, and spark curiosity inchildren.I read this book to a class of 3rd graders; they were so excitedand got so caught up in asking questions and making comments that it washard to contain them.A definite must read!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating account of a child's year in a far-away land.
This book lets one easily imagine what living in Swaziland must be like.Nila addresses questions that kids (and adults, too) would have about a far-away land:what kinds of toys, clothes, and schools the children have, what kinds of food the people eat, and which way the water swirls down the drain!Through pictures and text, the reader discovers a bit of Swaziland's history, terrain, and people.I first discovered this book in a quest for multicultural books for my elementary classroom.I was so impressed with Learning to Swim in Swaziland that I bought it for myself, and both my thirteen-year-old and my eight-year-old liked it as much as I did! ... High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Mpumalanga, - name changed from Eastern Transvaal on 24 August 1995), is a province of South Africa. It constitutes 6.5% of South Africa's land area. In the north it borders on Limpopo, to the west Gauteng, to the southwest the Free State and to the south KwaZulu-Natal. The capital is Mbombela, previously known as Nelspruit. Prior to 1994, Mpumalanga was part of Transvaal Province. ... Read more
