Extractions: Long before the grinding whine of the first snowmobile broke the icy stillness of the Great White North, a team of sled dogs and the sled they pulled were the station wagon of choice for winter driving. Calling out "gee-haa" (or maybe that was only in the Hollywood version) the musher guided his team along woodland trails and frozen creeks to his destination hundreds of miles away. Why? Ahh, who knows why, but it does look like fun. It’s the kind of riotous fun anyone can have when they come to Whistler. All you have to do is click your heels together three times and say, "Gee-haa!". This is a unique experience you don't want to miss! Dog Sledding Tours On your arrival at the Dog Sled Base camp in Soo Valley, your "Musher" will provide a full interpretation of the dogs and tour procedures. The harnessing and the staging of the dog team is very exciting. You will learn how to harness dogs, command the team and ride the runners. Each sled holds up to 2 full size adults and 1 child. Included in the tour are the transfer from Whistler Village to base area and back as well as a drink and snack.

Extractions: We first started The Siberian Husky Social Club of Big Bear Lake in January, of 1998. Unlike other breed specific clubs, we are not interested in breeding or showing our dogs. Our interests center around organizing activities that will challenge this remarkable breed of dog and provide them with the level of social interaction they need to flourish. We are open to all people and all dog breeds as long as both dog and owner are friendly and have been properly socialized. Our club promotes responsible dog ownership through education, spay and neutering, and we are strong supporters of breed rescue, and will not recommend dog breeders.

Dog Sledding This is truly a unique experience, with the only outfitter in the area to run this type of tour. You will have an opportunity to try out all aspects of dog sledding including "mushing" the dogs! The tour begins with the guides giving an explanation of sledding, how to operate the sleds and how to handle the beautiful Siberian Huskies that you will run. Then you take off down a six mile prepared trail through the middle fork of the Swan River. The tour operates on a rotation/relay basis so that everyone has a chance to mush the dogs, ride in the dogsled, and ride with your guide in the following sleigh. There are some great chances for action photography with both still and video cameras giving great results, so don't forget to bring your camera for this one! The outfitter does not recommend this activity for children 3 years old or younger. The tour takes approximately one hour and will be the most memorable hour of your vacation. This is a rare opportunity - not to be missed! You will treasure those photographs in the family album for years to come.

Hence most of our competitions are based on dirt tracks using wheeled gigs and scooters. The scooter as shown is standard equipment for most of the 1-dog and 2-dog classes.
