4-0 out of 5 stars fine
The book itself, the information it provides and the selection of songs are all fine, it's a good, well-rounded book with great illustrations suitable for teaching.I did find it highly ironic, however, that a book purporting to teach American history gets the date and place of the first permanent English colony in North America wrong -- it wasn't Plymouth in 1620, it was Jamestown in 1607.Furthermore, there were numerous French, Dutch and Spanish colonies and outposts all up and down the Atlantic coast of what would become the United States well in advance of the Puritans. In fact, the first Dutch colony in the new world was founded near Albany, NY, five years before Plymouth. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This really works!
I used these techniques while teaching elementary school and they work! Any time the students in my class got into an argument, we stopped and did what is suggested in The Peaceful Classroom book. I found that it helped my students learn to feel and empathize with others and develop a healthy sense of compassion. My classroom was known as the Peaceful Classroom!

5-0 out of 5 stars Peace in the classroom
It's not just financiers and politicians who need to have a moral basis for their actions. Teachers can also contribute meaningfully to society by helping their students to develop skills that enable them to be responsible and creative citizens. In this very welcome book for pre-schoolers, therefore, the author (who is professor of Human Development at Kansas State University in Manhattan) focuses on friendship skills, compassion skills, cooperation skills, and kindness skills. These quantitatively un-measurable factors have largely been left behind in the testing frenzy that is taking over education. But as Einstein tells us, "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Having said this, it's great to see a book that is so practical, with so many wonderful examples of how to promote a non-threatening learning and living environment, through simple, peaceful learning activities. If we want to change society, then the classroom is a very good place to start, and being friendly, compassionate, cooperative, and kind, do not exclude students from passing exams. Rather, they make for better future professionals and human beings. Surely, this is the role of the teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars refreshing!
I am greatly impressed with this resourceful book. There are numerous games and ideas for any teacher to use and even extend on. The thought put into this book is tremendous and I recommend any pre-school teacher to have this as part of their classroom. The very first game we played with my 3 to 6 year old group was well recieved and the children look forward to the co-operative games we play. Every child is boosted in their self esteem through fun and laughter. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bullying is getting worse...this book can really help.
Having two school age children who have at one time or another faced bullying, and having been bullied myself as a child, I can completely relate to this book's topic. School age bullying is a problem for both children and their parents, especially these days with internet bullying as prevalent as it is.This book is an excellent resource for parents to learn how to deal with the various bullying situations that arise. It's well written and understandable, but even better, the ideas presented are actionable. You can learn and take effective, proactive steps to resolve the pain your child is feeling if you apply the methods taught in this book. And for those parents of bullies, there's help for you, too.So many parents don't realize they and their actions may be the reason for their children's anti-social behavior.
I give this book a 5 star rating as the go to book if you're faced with a situation where your child is bullied and they need your help to get through it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches elementary grades lessons and activities for reinforcing empathy and friendship
