A rip-off
I bought this book thinking I would find where to stay and visit on some great tours through Washington. I live here and all of their tours are already well known - I hoped for something different. They talk about spending several days touring Seattle! This is not an adventure for somebody in an RV to make - traffic is terrible. Not at all what I thought or it sounded from editorial reviews.

Disappointing and not really what the title says
The book is called "A Camping Guide", so I was expecting a guide to camping, campgrounds, etc. Well, it's more like a suggested trip guide with very little (5 lines) information per campground. Also, they list only very few, only those which are on their suggested trips. Even though not a complete loss (the trips are kind of nice), I think the title is completely misleading. Also there are 5 trips for WA, 2 for Oregon, and 1 for BC... very Washington centric. I also don't quite understand why a camp guide needs information about downtown Seattle.... not many people camping there last time I checked. If I want a tourist guide for Seattle, I buy one and there are many better ones. ... Read more

poorly organized
this has to be one of the most poorly organized books I've encountered. Very difficult to find information. For example, reading through the section on the coast, there are two pages on the Gorge. Frustrating. The information contained in minimal.

Well packaged book
I like how this couple presents their information. The book is full of useful data. I have purchased this in preparation for our journey to Alaska, British Columbia, Yukon and Northwest Territories. It does a superb job of helping you understand what to look for, where to look for it, how much things cost relative to other areas. Excellent job.

Oregon insider gives two thumbs up.
Having lived in the Pacific NW for many years I know lots of places for camping and RVing. I found this book accurate and very resourcefull. With rising fuel prices, we are all looking for closer to home places to "get away" and this book is a required resource to help find them, and determine their suitability. The only criticism I have is the way its organized. A little hard to find individual places since it is organized based on tour routes.

Great book
We live near Tacoma and have a motorhome that doesn't fit in many of the state and federal campgrounds in the Northwest.This newest Church book is very good at helping to find the right places for our rig.In a month, using their advice, we found three wonderful RV campgrounds that we didn't know about.One is next to a first class trout river and another is at an entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.Maybe the best part is that this book is helping us re-discover where we can go without using a lot of fuel!This is a great book for those that have never been to the Northwest as well as those that live there.Buy it!You'll like it!

As a northwest "native" this book is the best !

I'm a direct line descendant so I'm biased...
...EE Parrish doesn't get into flowery language or detail, but one does get the sense of his personality.We see him disgusted when a buffalo is killed and the meat not taken care of right away (it rots and goes to waste).We find him sick for much of the journey although he never outright states what his illness was.He mentions concern for his children, especially when one of them has a leg run over by a wagon wheel.
He has a feel for the legacy he leaves behind (several children, numerous grand children coupled with his long life.)
He even has comments directed to the future descendants :-)

The book reads easily.I just wish I had more from both before and after his journey.I should read it again! ... Read more
