DeLorme Atlas
I am very pleased with the Ohio DeLorme Atlas I purchased.It arrived quickly and was in fine shape.

Ohio maps
This whole series is great if you love to get off the main highways to really see a state.The back roads are well mapped as are sights to see and topographical features.

nice to keep in the car
If you don't own a gazeteer for your state I would suggest buying one. It is nice to be able to take the path less traveled and these show all of the county roads, etc. It also helps if something has closed an interstate and you need to find another way.

Absolutely Splendid

It is IMPOSSIBLE to overstate the value of this book for Ohio/Great Lakes Area birders. Though it has the "look" of a just another dry "Field Guide", Peterjohn's "The Birds of Ohio" - don't be fooled - besides being very informative, it is an interesting and entertaining read from page to page to page. Though it's title would lead one to think of it as a "local" work, the reader should realize the Ohio area is one of huge REGIONAL impact, that region encompassing much of east-central Canada and the east-central U.S.All Thumbs Up for this one !!!

Heavy on Details
This thick book seems to be filled with every detail on the birds of Ohio. A serious birder will most likely enjoy and treasure this volume. Illustrations (mostly maps of the state) are black and white line drawings. I did not find any color illustrations or photographs. The amature birder may find this a bit dissapointing.

Those that take this hobby seriously would most likely rate this book at 5 stars.

The definitive work on Ohio Birds
Peterjohn's"The Birds of Ohio" is the definitive scholarly work on Ohio Birds.Unlike other books of the same name this book is entirely original and based upon the authors own research.Other books have a more a cookie cutter approach.The publishers have created similar works for other states using much of the same information.While none of these works is intended as a field guide.Peterjohn provides the most complete and useful information for anyone interested in Ohio birds.

Peterjohn's, work is exhaustively researched and very well written, making it an invaluable reference.The species accounts tell the story of each species in Ohio and provide references.For common birds, habitat, migration, and nesting information is provided in a useful way.For rarities, a good history of sightings is provided.

Also included are the maps developed during the first Ohio breeding bird atlas.These provide a good reference on the distribution of these species.

This is the 2nd edition of the book and includes up to date information through 1999.Only a few species have been added to the Ohio list in the following years.

This book is highly recommended.

Great product, incredible amount of information included, amazing amount of detail, pictures great, love reading about Ohio's ghosts and hauntings! Only wish it were laminated to provide ultimate durability.

Absolutely Awesome
For anyone even remotely interested in the unique and curious back roads of Ohio, this map is a MUST HAVE!This is no little map either.At 35" x 50" it is a HUGE, detailed, cartographical masterpiece.High gloss, heavy weight map paper.If you had a big enough frame and could press out the folds, this would be a great "framable" map.I have numerous maps of Ohio for hiking, camping, paddling, etc.This one has even "seemingly" normal locations that other maps overlook.While it doesn't detail each and every back road like a gazetteer does, this map will get you where you are going when in search of Ohio's curiosities. I found this gem for $5.00 at a local used book store (BRAND NEW).Still, at the price here on Amazon, you will not be disappointed.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Vascular Flora of Ohio-Asteraceae
I have used this volume numerous times while keying out plants in Southern Ohio (Meigs County) and I have found it very helpful. It is useful that is covers only Ohio (I generally use Gleason and Cronquist for this area, and then there are many Asteraceae to sort out) and so narrows down this impressively large family. Also, since they devote a whole large-sized book to this topic, there is a lot more information in many of the keys to further bore down to the species. And then there are the county maps and good quality black and white illustrations, all adding to this books allure.
I use it with The Flora of West Virginia (Strausbaugh and Core) which has most of the plants found in this part of Southern Ohio.
The biggest problem may be its size. While I do sometimes carry it into the field, when it is added alongside with the other books of this series, it is a bit of a back-breaker. But it works well and I think I can wrench a few more years from my back.
To sum up, bring this book along if you will be keying out plants in Ohio.
