Most convenient map of all time!
I needed a good map to use in the car for my recent trip to Minneapolis.I purchased both the Minnesota map and the Minneapolis map available from Rand McNally.The Easyfinder maps are now my favorite maps of all time.Not too bulky, easy to read in the passenger seat and fold up just to look at the info you need.They are laminated as well so you can mark them up with a sharpie or felt pen and then just wipe off your markings later.If I ever need a map for anywhere else again I will be sure to look for the easyfinder first.Very satisfied. ... Great History/Maps/Minnesota Book!
Saw this book in my college's quarterly magazine, as it was put out by a Macalester alum.Got it as a Xmas gift for my parents, so I didn't look at it that much.But they told me they absolutely loved it and it's really interesting.Nice balance of photos and text.My mom was especially impressed that Native American history was properly addressed.I purchased the book new and thought the price was fair.

DeLorme Atlas
As expected the delorme arlases always deliver.Accurate travel information with details any outdoorsman needs to find the hidden out-of-the-way spots.

Not perfect, but still a valuable source of information
More than once I've found paved roads that aren't in the book, or trails that are blocked. It's got to be extremely difficult to keep a volume like this completely up to date! Still, with a little common sense (hey, this stream now has a dam on it, maybe I should portage around it?) this is a great guidebook to the dirt roads, trails, and windings of streams. There's no need for this in towns or cities, but out in the hinterlands it's the best overview guide that there is.

Good Map
Love these maps.Always buy one of the states we are visiting.. have saved many hours of stuck in construction or accident, plus allows us to visit out of the way places.recommend to anyone.

Sutter's best
I read this for a class at Southwest MSU where Sutter himself was a student way back in the 70s... he is the only author who has won the Minnesota Book Award in three categories: fiction, non-fiction (Cold Comfort), and poetry.
I love this collection of short stories. For those who are scared of essays, this is amazingly easy to read. Short, straight forward, poignant, and hilarious at times. You don't have to know the places to enjoy the essays.

This is one of the best works of Duluth's Poet Laureate.

An excellent book, and to think that if I had never lived in Duluth I would have missed out on such a great author. He reminded me of Bill Bryson in a way, another one of my favorites!

Review for Cold Comfort
Barton Sutter is an amazing writer. He uses his creativeness to express his feelings about the beautiful city of Duluth. Not only did I enjoy "Cold Comfort," but I enjoyed learning more about Barton Sutter. He seems to be a brilliant man with a lot of positive energy. The book highlights points of Duluth and Lake Superior that I've never heard of before or considered. I'm new to the city of Duluth; during my winter break, I'm going to take some time to visit the places that Sutter talked about in "Cold Comfort." He really inspired me about the city of Duluth and I look forward to getting to know the city better!

Great Book!
I was lucky enough to have Barton Sutter as an English Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and he read some of this book in our freshman english compostion class. The book gives you a sense of the Duluth/Superior area. Sutter is a great author and he comes highly recommended for english classes in Superior. So if you are looking for a book at that area..get this book!

Really Good Cold
I attended college at what was then called Wisconsin State University-Superior in the late sixties. I was from Philadelphia and I quickly got into this college to avoid the draft. So did many eastern draftable men. Imagine my surprise when I landed at Duluth Airport in January and stepped into a sheet of frozen air that made the hairs in my nose stiffen like pins.
Barton Sutter describes Duluth and Superior exactly the way people live there. Yes, people live there and they are nice people, but as Sutter shows, they ain't like you and me. They live in snow drifts nine months of the year.
Then there's Lake Superior or as Barton describes it, GOD. The lake is an ocean and it's everywhere. Barton describes fishing, hiking ,canoeing, and reading maps for a hobby. Somewhere in those dark winters he gets a divorce, is involved with a suprisingly active art community, and then gets married again. The prose is perfect. The description of rugged Minnesota and Wisconsin is terrific. Forget Vanity Fair and the New Yorker. Experience ice fishing at thirty below. ... Read more

Sharp maps, all of them are four color. The authors evenincluded maps of the towns along the trail. Nice for finding trail heads and local parks.
