Extractions: September 25, 2000 Now that the Aztecs are off to an 0-4 start in football many people around town are saying, "See, I told you so - they overscheduled again!" Indeed, my friend and favorite columnist, Nick Canepa, has questioned my sanity publicly about the schedule and my mug has been featured in the "Who's Not (hot)" box in the San Diego Union-Tribune This publicity wouldn't be so bad except that the U-T has never listed as me as "Who's Hot," even though I've been around for almost six years and once appeared on Hacksaw Hamilton's radio show. Of course, I am well aware that the schedule has been tough, but, believe it or not, there is method to our madness. First, I thought we could actually win a couple of those games and, frankly, we should have. Take away the late missed field goal against Arizona State and the blocked punt against Arizona, and we might be 2-2. Despite that possibility, however, some fans believe this kind of schedule leaves us too banged up to effectively compete in our conference. While it is true that we have already suffered five season ending injuries, I would argue that this year is an exception. In fact, we have been playing similar schedules over the last five years (Wisconsin, USC, Washington, Cal, Oklahoma, North Carolina, etc.) and have suffered only four-to-five season ending injuries combined ! And this season one of our serious injuries came before our first game and another when a player fell off his bicycle.

Extractions: Administration Faculty 2001-2002 Board of Trustees THE LAWRENCE HENRY GIPSON SCHOLAR PROGRAM In 1972, the college established a program for students with superior high school records and named it in honor of Lawrence Henry Gipson, a distinguished historian, Rhodes Scholar and Pulitzer Prize winner who began his academic career at Albertson in its early years. Gipson Scholars develop individual program contracts and work within the spirit of the college's liberal arts objective without the necessity of meeting General Graduation Requirements. High scholarship and senior honors papers or projects are expected of all participants. To be eligible for the Gipson Scholar Program, a student must have a high school GPA of at least 3.75 plus an ACT or SAT score in the 90th percentile. Freshmen not meeting these standards, sophomores, and transfer students may petition the Gipson Board for acceptance into the program.
