5-0 out of 5 stars A book all outdoor lovers should read
Most Americans are unaware of the incredible bravery of the men and women that defend our wilderness and wildlife. This book tells it like it is. A must-read for all wildlife lovers.

Pam Beason
Author of Wild and SAVE Your Money, Your Sanity, and Our Planet; 5 Lessons and 125 Tips for a Thrifty Lifestyle

5-0 out of 5 stars Grosz reaches the top and doesn't like the view

Fans of Terry Grosz's earlier books will certainly want to read this one.It takes his memoirs of a game warden through the end of his career. He's had two heart attacks and suffers from diabetes.(All those steaks and pies in earlier books have clearly caught up with him.)However both of his sons are in law enforcement, and one of them is a game officer like him.

In this book, Grosz is a regional administrator. He still gets out in the field once in a while, but the stories here take place on a larger scale and involve a lot more people. For example, there's the story of a major undercover investigation that required almost 300 officers to make arrests, and another story about setting up a roadblock on I-80 in hunting season to enforce state game laws on game entering interstate commerce. He also tells the Fish and Wildlife Service side of the story of better grizzly bear management in the Greater Yellowstone Area.

The final chapters are most personal, with a love letter to his wife, Donna, and a tribute to his dog.

Even more than his previous books, this one bleeds both passion and anger. We are destroying this country's wildlife.Voters, politicians, and the media do not take violations of wildlife law seriously.Law enforcement is woefully unfunded - - Grosz started one year's budget with less than zero money left.Politicians meddle to protect their friends, and he calls out Colorado Gov. Romer, New Mexico Gov. (then Congressman) Bill Richardson, and Ronald Reagan as culprits, among many less well known figures.Hunters are uneducated game hogs who don't care about conservation. The media take the side of culprits against the men in uniforms.

This could be depressing or it could be a call to action. You decide, readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lookout poachers, here comes Terry
This book is for anyone that enjoyes and cares about our American Wildlife. With little support from the government and even less cash,Terry Grosz and his officers performed miracles to catch all sorts of bad guys.Just how this was accomplished is what makes it so interesting. This book will leave you laughing, crying and angry enough to write to every official you can reach.Terry loved what he did and it shows in every paragraph.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Thin Green Line
Terry Grosz is my instructor, mentor and a dear Friend."The Thin Green Line" is a "real life" book detailing the author's dedication to protecting our natural resources and his dedication to conservation agencies in general.Everyone of his books are a collection of an incredible man's service to fauna, flora and mankind.Do not miss a single one of his books!

Product Description

Splish-splash, Baby Elephant's giving Grandma a bath: now he's still nice and dry, but she's all wet! And look at the whales deep under the waves; one is still small, but someday it will be big, too. Peek a boo, what do you see? Little Rhino hiding behind, while Mommy's in front. Every page teaches a new set of opposites, vividly illustrated by irresistible animals in different environments: cute spot art in the margins playfully reinforces the lesson. Notes on all the animals--which include sunning walruses, a tiger brother and sister, and cute cuddly polar bears--attune youngsters to ecology and the world around them.

Product Description
Whales, dolphins, and porpoises have fascinated humankind for centuries. Amazingly diverse, they have evolved specializations that allow them, despite being air-breathing mammals, to exploit habitats ranging from surface waters to ocean depths. Whales and Dolphins of the World is a celebration of the variety (more than 80 species), behavior, and natural history of these remarkable animals. Stunningly illustrated by 180 color photographs, it describes what we know of their lives, including feeding, reproduction, communication, and social structures, and surveys the factors that affect them, from hunting to pollution. The book explores the strong relationship between our species and theirs, with a look at dolphin therapy and the pros and cons of whale-watching. It details the forces that threaten whales, dolphins, and porpoises, including hunting, whaling, fisheries, pollution, and habitat destruction, and also describes the conservation actions that must take place in the twenty-first century to save them. A color map of the world highlights the waters in which whales and dolphins are found.

Worldwide interest in these unique creatures is growing, as evidenced by the increasing number of people who go whale- and dolphin-watching each year. This book, with its informative, lively text and spectacular images, provides an illuminating look at the lives of whales and dolphins in a changing world. ... Read more
