4-0 out of 5 stars interesting book
This book is about a creative and over imaginative girl about 9 years old who hangs out with friends younger than her that all meet afterschool and put on plays together for fun. In this book, she decides to write about chicken pox but nobody likes her play and believe that she has to have had chicken pox first in order to write about it so she writes a play about an evil stepmother instead. The rest of the plot just focuses on spying on a mysterious neighbor and some of the kids coming down with chicken pox themselves and then there is a finalized play at the end with the script and all about a chicken pox party. Not really something intellectual for a kid, but just some lazy fun stuff to read about.

3-0 out of 5 stars not a real chicken pox party
A chicken pox party is really exposing one's kids at a young age to friends who have chicken pox so they can catch the virus early in life. This book doesn't have a chicken pox party the way it is defined 16 years after this book was written.

4-0 out of 5 stars cute book
the book was so cute that I myself wanted to write plays of my own and make productions of shows I already liked.I even wanted to act out the play at the end but never got a chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was obsessed with this book
I would read this all day even at the dinner table. The pizza party at the end was really mouth watering, as was the picnic.

3-0 out of 5 stars favourite book from childhood but some flaws
this girl annie and her younger friends wanted to put on a play, this time about a chicken pox epidemic and no one liked the idea(though the cast of this first idea made it to the back of this book cover I still don't know why) then in the next chapter annie is working on a volcano for school and getting ideas for another play. She decides to do a play called the evil stepmother and after some debate she lets the new girl and her best friend both be stepmothers and realizes the new girl is so good at acting evil. Then the new girl's mom picks her up and realizes one of the other kids has chicken pox for real so she takes him home and the rest of the kids don't like the mom being strict with the new girl keeping her from being in the play so they all spy on her and realize she's being "held hostage" and when they find out she's her stepmother, annie gets caught up in her own fairytale and thinks something is really happening. But when theyspy on her again and get caught they realize that the new girl actually came down with the chicken pox too which is why she couldn't come out to play, and they realize they were wrong about the mother too cause she was so nice and invited them all in for pizza. Then when annie goes home she realizes SHE has chicken pox and then writes a good play that is at the end of the book. The play is about a king and a queen and children in a village who love to play hula hoops and want to have a contest but then the boy comes down with chicken pox and can't participate so he goes to a sorcerer who gives him a chicken disguuise and so the "chicken" participates and wins the contest and they end up keeping him and feeding him chicken food but after a few days he's so tired of being a chicken that he wants to get out of his disguise and can't do it and starts to sound like a chicken too. Then the sorcerer helps him come out of the disguise and they all realize it was the boy from the village and by then all of them have come down with chicken pox so they all have a chicken pox party by sitting in a circle eating candy and peanuts and being tickled and then the king and queen end up making the boy a prince

now that I think about it the story is pretty lame but for it's time it was enjoyable. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars not a very good job
There are a few good photos of chicken pox blisters in here, but not very much information for children about the disease. The book has a feeling of being quickly slapped together.Pages of children at the beach or roller blading are just filler. This book lacks a cohesive narrative. There is better on the market. ... Product Description
"Dr Spot's Casebooks" is a series of simple stories for children aged 4-7. Each story is about a different animal character (for example Franklin, the Frog or Charlie, the Cheetah) and deals with a different medical or behavioural condition, for example measles or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). In the books, Dr Spot the leopard doctor describes each condition in the context of the story and shows how it can be treated or handled. The stories are intended to be informative and reassuring, not only for children but also for parents/carers, for whom special parents' pages are included at the back of the books. These pages contain full information on symptoms, causes and action to be taken, including when to call in a doctor. In this title, Mike, the Monkey comes out in spots and feels uncomfortably itchy - until Dr Spot prescribes a soothing lotion. ... Read more
