Product Description
President George W. Bush knows the value of exercise and fitness to overall health. He exercises almost every day, no matter where he is. He even runs on a treadmill while traveling on Air Force One. He inspires us all to be more active in our lives. To encourage his fellow Americans to follow a path of healthy living, President Bush created the HealthierUS Initiative.

Now this new book details the vision and mission of the HealthierUS Initiative and provides ideas and information for Americans who seek a healthier lifestyle.

Constant reports from both government and private health agencies warn us that America is in a health crisis. More than half of all Americans are overweight and face increased health risks, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

In June 2002, President Bush responded by launching the HealthierUS Initiative, a health and fitness initiative designed to get Americans healthy and active. The plan makes recommendations in four important facets of health: physical activity, nutrition, disease prevention through screenings, and making healthy lifestyle choices.

The White House Workout is a simple plan of fitness and nutrition that every family and individual can follow to improve their health and longevity. Building on the "Four Pillars" of the HealthierUS Initiative, it provides specific exercise programs, nutrition information and recipes, screening checklists, and even logs to record your progress.

With the help of this book, everyone can learn to live a longer, healthier life.

Special Features:
• Easy ways to add exercise to your daily life
• The essential ingredients of good nutrition
• Important health screenings no one should miss
• Smart and healthy lifestyle choices

Plus:
• Everyday flexibility boosters
• Walking, jogging, and running programs

The attacks of September 11th changed America ! President Bush declared war on terrorism and the advance of human freedom the priorities of his Administration. The United States militaryhas liberated the people of Iraq from the brutal regime. Thousands of terrorists have been captured and operations have been stopped. In the President's words, "our Nation - this generation - will lift a dark threat of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage. We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail."

George W. Bush blew it.His presidency is falling apart at the seams at a critical moment during this election year.Where to begin?Keeping America in the dark about 9/11.An uncessary war against Iraq.Publicly supporting his defense secretary who DIDN'T DO HIS JOB.And feeding hate, fear, and lies into the hearts of Americans all over. But there's hope.We have John Kerry. He's the man who will put Democrats back on the map and save our country and win back confidence from our allies.November should be an easy victory for Kerry.I'm pretty sure of this.I expect nothing less.

Product Description

The judicious statesman who won victories abroad but suffered defeat at home, whose wisdom and demeanor served America well at a critical time

George Bush was a throwback to a different era. A patrician figure not known for eloquence, Bush dismissed ideology as "the vision thing." Yet, as Timothy Naftali argues, no one of his generation was better prepared for the challenges facing the United States as the Cold War ended. Bush wisely encouraged the liberalization of the Soviet system and skillfully orchestrated the reunification of Germany. And following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990, he united the global community to defeat Saddam Hussein. At home, Bush reasserted fiscal discipline after the excesses of the Reagan years.

It was ultimately his political awkwardness that cost Bush a second term. His toughest decisions widened fractures in the Republican Party, and with his party divided, Bush lost his bid for reelection in 1992. In a final irony, the conservatives who scorned him would return to power eight years later, under his son and namesake, with the result that the elder George Bush would see his reputation soar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent title
I've read a few of the books in this series so far and I think this is one of the better ones. It covers the life and career of George Bush, and like every other book in this series, intentionally glosses over many things in the name of brevity. However, the book still manages to cover many of the salient points of this president who often suffers by having come between two of the most popular and charismatic presidents of recent times. Additionally, it gives a good overview of some of the aspects of the man himself and some of the issues he grappled with that many people may not remember or know about. This is a president who served one term and quickly faded from memory, but was actually involved in a number of high profile events, not the least of which was the effective end of the cold war and the sea change in Eastern European politics.

I would say that this book begins with a fair and favorable assessment of Bush and ends that way. In between, there are some sections that are not so positive and make him out to have been somewhat out of his league or not up to the tasks at hand. The coverage of the Iran-Contra scandal is especially ambiguous in that it clearly suggests Bush was not completely innocent but stops short of accusing him of wrongdoing. However, the author clearly comes down on the side of believing that Bush was the right man for the job and that he displayed a great deal of integrity and wisdom in much of what he did. His approach to international relations and his attempts at making domestic progress are seen here as being well-intentioned, and in many cases, successful.

As is the case with all of the presidential biographies in this series, this book is more of a beginning point than anything. The casual reader will enjoy remembering the career of Bush but the serious reader or researcher will want to go beyond what is found here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Read My Lips...And Read This Book!
"George H.W. Bush" provides the reader with an interesting insight into the life, career and even the soul of one of our recent presidents.Born into a patrician, political family, this son of a United States Senator was taught from an early age to value loyalty, service and character.Through the pages of this book we learn how George H.W. Bush lived out these values as he strode across the world stage.

In this volume of the American Presidents Series, author Timothy Naftali was limited in the length of his, but yet he has brought us a work which digs below the surface as it analyzes the president who was hard, for many, to know.

This book covers a whole life, not just his presidency.Beginning with his youth, it leads us through his service as the youngest Navy pilot in World War II, during which he lost his crew when their plane was shot down, his business career and early entry into politics.Starting as County Chairman, Bush ran an unsuccessful race for the U.S. Senate before settling in for two terms in the House of Representatives. After another defeat for the Senate, he entered a period of appointive positions, including Ambassador to the United Nations, Representative to China, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Chairman of the Republican National Committee.Throughout this period, Bush repeatedly angled for the Vice-Presidential nods from Nixon and Ford before getting it from Reagan.

Ready to run for office again, Bush set his sights on the top in 1980, waging a valiant but unsuccessful challenge to the front runner, Ronald Reagan.Serving as a loyalvice-president, Bush gained the experience, and some taint of scandal, which would figure in his eventual succession to the Presidency.
As President, Bush faced a series of challenges, including the management of victory in the Cold War, the savings and loan crisis, the lingering effects of Iran Contra, which could have tarnished Bush's reputation more than it did, Operation Just Cause in Panama and the infamous betray of the "Read My Lips" promise of no more taxes.

The George H.W. Bush Administration will be mostly remembered for Operation Desert Storm in which forces of the coalition which he molded drove Sadam Hussein out of Iraq, but left him in power, only to be dealt with by another George Bush.In telling the story of the Washington end of Desert Storm, Naftali brings the reader into the rationale and the surprises which led to the victory which was obtained. He confirmed my suspicion that the administration was counting on a coup which would topple Sadam from power without the need of a military conquest.

After Victory in the Desert, Bush entered a political downward spiral which led to the bitterness and disappointment that followed his defeat by Bill Clinton. The book explains why Bush was unable to connect with the people for whom he had achieved victory.

Naftali does a good job at demonstrating why Bush was so unsuccessful in developing a loyal political following. He follows the development of this moderate Republican into a Reagan Conservative who then tried to become his own man without alienating the Reaganites who formed his political base. The people who elected him did not really know him and when Ross Perot offered a new and different candidate, many deserted Bush to follow a new leader. In the end, Bush suffered a rejection unprecedented since William Howard Taft.

Despite his political failings, Naftali makes the point that, for a time in his administration, Bush achieved the status of greatness. When confronted with the international challenges of the end of the Cold War and the start of the struggle with Iraq, Bush skillfully brought the forces of the world together in a way that few other leaders have.In this, Bush makes his mark on history.

Although short, this book enables the reader to see President Bush from a different perspective and gain a deeper understanding of him.Although not an apology for its subject, it does evidence a deep respect. It has changed my view of this period of history.A book that can do that is a valuable read.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better presidents.
Well I too thought that George H. W. Bush was a better president than either the previous occupant or Clinton. He was a wise man who counciled patience and caution. He also wasn't afraid to break a campaign pledge that hurt the country.Unfortunately crazy conservatives killed him in the primaries and Clinton smiled his way to the Presidency. After his son's disasterous presidency, George H. W. Bush is looking much better.
The author makes these points in his book. This is an interesting read about a controversial president.I thought Tim's biography was unbiased. His appraisal of Bush shows both his strengths and weaknesses. However, the author does show the innate goodness of this man.

A worthy addition to the American Presidents series. This is a nice read about a modern U.S. President.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not very insightful
I have to say that I found Timothy Naftali's work to be interesting. He did provide a broad brush overview of Bush 41 but did not really give us any insights that couldn't be gleaned from other people's memoir's. It would seem to me that he read what Bob Woodward, Colin Powell, Norman Schwartzcroft and company had to say and simply gleaned off his own interpretation.Granted I don't think the books in this series are supposed to be of tremendous relevance for the more recent presidents, but I certainly hope that for future generations they can provide details on the lesser known ones.

I think this is an interesting and very light read but it does tend in my opinion to reinforce the notion that George H.W. Bush was as much an observer of history than a participant. He was the guy who just happened to be sitting in the Oval Office when this stuff happened and his presence really didn't have that much to do with the rapid changes in the world at the time and quite the opposite, he nearly prevented them from happening.Anyway it's an interesting afternoon read, but don't expect to come away very impressed with Bush 41.

1-0 out of 5 stars Released too soon
I have this book and my comments are not on the quality of the writing or the information presented. This book should not have been released until after Mr. Bush's death. This was done for Ford's biography in this series and I'm sure it will be done for Carter's. Mr. Bush has many years left to serve on the boards of directors of many a corporation before he passes on. I doubt he'll accomplish anything profound in that time, but if he does it will be lost in this volume. ... Read more

Product Description
President George W. Bush describes the critical decisions of his presidency and personal life.

Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America’s 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life.

In gripping, never-before-heard detail, President Bush brings readers inside the Texas Governor’s Mansion on the night of the hotly contested 2000 election; aboard Air Force One on 9/11, in the hours after America’s most devastating attack since Pearl Harbor; at the head of the table in the Situation Room in the moments before launching the war in Iraq; and behind the Oval Office desk for his historic and controversial decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan, Iran, and other issues that have shaped the first decade of the 21st century.

President Bush writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his accomplishments reforming education, treating HIV/AIDS in Africa, and safeguarding the country amid chilling warnings of additional terrorist attacks. He also offers intimate new details on his decision to quit drinking, discovery of faith, and relationship with his family.

A groundbreaking new brand of memoir, Decision Points will captivate supporters, surprise critics, and change perspectives on one of the most consequential eras in American history – and the man at the center of events. ... Read more

Product Description
When George H. W. Bush asked Doro to write this memoir, she contacted hundreds of his friends and associates; conducted scores of interviews with dignitaries including Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev, and General Colin Powell; tapped the memories of family members, including her mother, her four brothers, and of course, her father himself; and collected information from the former president's never-before-released files. "Now for the first time, a complete portrait of George H. W. Bush emerges. Doro reveals her father as a young man courting his future wife, Barbara, and how the death of their first daughter brought them closer. Doro tells how they raised five children through much of her father's long and storied career in public service, and offers details about this tenures as head of the Republication National Committee during Watergate, ambassador to the U.N., America's liaison to China, and vice president for eight years under Ronald Reagan.""Doro also provides an insider's look at how the 41st president dealt with crises and challenges, all while keeping his humor and personality intact, and how he still does so while aiding victims of the 2004 tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. She shows how he felt when two of his sons entered politics - and when his eldest made it to the top - and sheds new light on his friendship with former rival Bill Clinton."--BOOK JACKET. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Revealing, quasi insider point of view
I learned just how considerate and what a decent man George H W Bush was and that was a breakthrough. I generally didn't find him that interesting of a president but after reading this book, his daughter really opens your eyes to what kind of person Bush is. The book wasn't really a page turner and it felt a bit slow to read somethings but she isn't a professional biographer and did a very nice job describing her dad's life. A different type of biography but it really showed you the man, not just his public life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, & quite readable.
I'm nearing the end of my quest to read bios of all the presidents, in order. This book had good reader reviews, which is why I chose this one for #41.The author admits in the introduction that it is biased; after all, she is writing about her father! However, having read it, I think it was quite fair, overall. It was easy to read; fairly thorough; and not as biased as it might have been, I believe.All-in-all, not a disappointment at all.I would recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
With the 2008 presidential elections coming up, I took it upon myself to learn about our future president ("Living History") and VP ("Dreams of my Father") and past ones. I just finished reading "My Father, My President". It's a candid "inside" look into the life of a former president. Talk about an absolutely wonderful book abt George HW Bush!"41" strikes me as a fun, loving, intelligent, family oriented stateman with emphasis on duty, honor, family and faith. In plain words, a good citizen worthy of admiration! (Need I mention I am a Democrat!)
From his days as a WWII veteran to his brief work career at the UN, to his successful career as a director at the USLO, CIA, then later as a Chairman for the NRC then later as the head of state, it is extremely difficult not to fall in love with GHWB! His wit, charm and affection is just simply contagious... "41" is brilliant! I hope people will get a chance to read it and enjoy it as much as I did. God only knows how much we need more genuine heroes like him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Learned many things about George H W Bush that I never knew.Very enjoyable book and easy to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good and decent man
This book provides more insight into the essential goodness of George H.W. Bush. Aside from the facts and figures of his early career, vice-presidency and Presidency, the book gives us a fascinating look at how someone so prominent can still adhere to the Golden Rule. I found the stories told by Secret Service agents and staff about his common courtesy, concern and humor to be the most interesting. He never felt he was better or more important than anyone else, although I think history will ultimately say otherwise. ... "Finally, a fun-to-read book about George W. Bush that details the secrets to his success!"
-Ken Blanchard, coauthor, The One Minute Manager

"Political journalists love graduate student intelligence, the ability to make clever allusions in seminars, and in 1999--2000, they hassled George W. Bush for not having it. They didn't realize what this book succinctly displays: that the President has something far more important-CEO intelligence, the ability to ask tough questions, garner essential information, and make discerning decisions. Such intelligence can be fostered and honed, and this book shows how."
-Dr. Marvin Olasky, Professor of Journalism, The University of Texas at Austin, and Editor in Chief, World magazine

"Put aside politics and read this book right away for its true wisdom and concrete advice about leadership. The authors have done a brilliant job explaining the leadership style that makes this President so effective. Any leader can learn from the philosophy, strategy, and tactics in this book."
-Bruce Tulgan, founder of RainmakerThinking, Inc., and author, Winning the Talent Wars

"Thompson and Ware make a compelling case that this President who 'loves to be underestimated' has a highly effective approach to leadership that is humane, direct, and at times, truly transformational. Many in business today could benefit from reading this book."
-David M. Abshire, President, Center for the Study of the Presidency ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars At last- a book that recognizes the truth about our President!
This book shows how George W. Bush's life and experiences uniquely prepared him for his role as President of the United States, at a such pivotal time in the history of our county. This book does a good job of countering the liberal-left media's dis-information campaign.

It shows how GWB has risen to the challenges presented by terrorist attacks on our country, and how he has stood firm, despite pressure on every side, to back down, in the face of aggression.

He was raised in a tradition of true statesmanship, and has unfailingly put the interestes or our country above all else, choosing to sacrifice temporary popularity for doing the right thing.

History will view him as one of our greatest presidents.

1-0 out of 5 stars I thought this was a JOKE!
I flipped through this, as usual, the usual Bush platitude and down-home country good sense, Mom and Apple Pie.

If there was ever a president who made me want to vomit more, it was before I was born.

5-0 out of 5 stars For those with short memories
Sure, the "pundits" and "talking heads" are having a field day right now, taking pot-shots at the President just because there is some tactical tweaking going on in Iraq , but pause for a moment to recall some of the outstanding characteristics that impelled us to elect President Bush.TWICE!That's what this fine book brings to light

What the "pundits" fail to comprehend is that the seeming "incuriosity" of the President (to employ one of the media's pet pejoratives) reflects a voracious, non-judgemental absorption of facts, ideas and information from those surrounding him.Only after this processdoes he sit down with the logical objectivity of a CEO to determine what course is best for America.

That said, this book is NOT a tribute to G. W. Bush.It is a HOW TO book, that can teach and instill similar leadership qualities in those willing to learn.I think we can all agree that the rest of the world would quake if they thought our industries and government were controlled by a group of men (and women) with the same leadership skills and panache as W.(Let me add here that, if Chrysler had had decent [Bushian] leadership, Mercedes would be using American made parts, and not the other way around!)

Lastly, it's important to understand that many people simply don't "get" the President's leadership style.Often - though not always - blinded by partisanship, they simply refuse to accept or understand the necessity and appropriateness of his decisions. With that kind of negativity, how can they?Fortunately, at least their children will reap the results of the breathtaking strategic vision and leadership of President Bush.

2-0 out of 5 stars what the...?
I saw one of the author's (Thompson) speak once and it was much more of a political rally or a serious discussion on leadership in an organizational context. Even though I questioned the sanity of anyone who writes a book with the words "genius," "common sense," and "GW Bush" in the same title, I decided to give it a try.

What I found is a book that is emblamatic of Bush's whole presidency. The rare glimpses we do get of Bush in public are scripted and fake (this is a fact, as recently proven. He has to be the worst public speaking president ever). Thus, any impression we get of him is clearly scripted with a few buzz words (9/11, freedom, tax relief, etc.) thrown in for effect. It should be no wonder, then, that Bush is seen as a man of little substance or depth, a syncophantic lackey for Cheney and his colleagues.

This book follows in that tradition. It presents a made-up, scripted version account of Bush's leadership style and conviently glosses over his costly leadership mistakes (cronyism, relying on anecdote over evidence, lacking credibility).

So, while this book is worthwhile in that outlines good leadership techniques in general, by attaching these characteristics to GW it reads like a surreal painting - taking common sense, ordinary objects and placing them in a contradictory setting. While they make sense in the real world, in their new context they make absolutely no sense at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is about George W Bush - not his Presidency
RE: reader who doesn't think GWB Presidency is genius -
this book is a compilation of stories/examples describing the 10 behaviors that make GWB, the man, a leadership genius. The stories/examples cover his college years through his first term Presidency. After each example there are 2 sections:
1. what the experts say about this leadership behavior
2. step by step how the reader can successfully implement this in their own leadership

No matter your thoughts on Bush Presidential policy or politics you can get ideas for enhancing your leadership from the book ... Read more

Product Description
The most intimate and revealing look at one of America's most private public figures.

Though reticent in public, George Bush has openly shared his private thoughts in his correspondence throughout his life. Fortunately, since the former president does not plan to write his autobiography, this collection of letters, diary entries, and memos, with his accompanying commentary, will fill that void.

Organized chronologically, the volume begins with eighteen-year-old George's letters to his parents during World War II, when, at the time he was commissioned, he was the youngest pilot in the Navy. Readers will gain insights into Bush's career highlights -- the oil business, his two terms in Congress, his ambassadorship to the U.N., his service as an envoy in China, his tenure with the Central Intelligence Agency, and of course, the vice presidency, the presidency, and the postpresidency. They will also observe a devoted husband, father, and American. Ranging from a love letter to Barbara and a letter to his mother about missing his daughter Robin after her death from leukemia to a letter to his children two weeks before Nixon's resignation to one written to them just before the beginning of Desert Storm, the writings are remarkable for their candor, humor, and poignancy.

As the Bushes continue to emerge as a major political family, this portrait of its unassuming patriarch is timely and important. That George Bush is allowing this much of the collection to be published is remarkable in itself. All the Best, George Bush provides a surprisingly intimate and insightful portrayal of the forty-first president of the United States.

As the author writes in his Preface: "So what we have here are letters from the past and present. Letters that are light and hopefully amusing. Letters written when my heart was heavy or full of joy. Serious letters. Nutty letters. Caring letters, and rejoicing letters....It's all about heartbeat."Amazon.com Review
In lieu of a memoir, All the Best, George Bush collects correspondence and diary entries from the former U.S. president to show, as he says, "what my own heartbeat is, what my values are, what has motivated me in life." The letters begin in 1942--when, fresh out of high school, Bush volunteered for U.S. Navy flight school--and continue to the brink of the 21st century, as the retired chief executive worries about the Melissa virus infecting his office's server and keeping his visiting grandchildren in line. ("I realize," he muses, "Keep the freezer door closed from now on and I mean it lacks the rhetorical depth of This will not stand or Read my lips.") All the Best hits all the highlights of Bush's career, from the Texas oil business to his role as ambassador to China, then CIA director, vice president under Ronald Reagan, and finally president himself. Along the way, he reveals a personality that is at turns compassionate, respectful, silly, doting, and resolute--a man for whom being a father and a grandfather matters as much as, and maybe even more than, being leader of the free world. Fans and detractors alike will find in All the Best an intimate human portrait that offers as sure a self-definition of Bush's personal life as A World Transformed did his presidential career. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Letters from George H Bush, a different type of book.
This was interesting as it is made up of letters that will jolt your memory from various time periods through out Bush#1's life.
The first Desert Storm War, when Reagan was shot etc...

Then this book also has insight from behind the scenes as well.I learned things that I did not know. Many were very enlightening.

All in all this is very interesting.

I recently listen to Clintons book as well so this is a bi-partisan review:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book was very insightful. Literally, I learned a lot about George Bush in a day of reading than I could possibly imagine. If you are into autobiographies of America's presidents, this book is a necessity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book Amazing Man
I enjoyed reading this book about our former president. The letters he wrote to his family, friends, and others showed a personal side to this great man. One thing that was apparent in his letters is that he loves his family very much and that he has a very funny sense of humor. He is a wonderful writer and could express himself very well in his letters.
It was interesting seeing a different side to the Nixon administration and Watergate as well as other memorable historical times. This is an excellent read, you will not be disappointed

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Insight!
This book is a collection of letters and personal diary entries from George H. W. Bush throughout his life. The book is divided into major sections that align with what he was doing at the time. It includes letters to his mom back when he voluntered to enter the US Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and goes all the way up until the date of publication of the book, just prior to his son's campaign for president. It includes sections during his time as an oil man in Texas, as a congressman, as the US Ambassador to the UN, as the Chairman of the RNC (during the Watergate era), as the Director of the CIA, as the US liaison to China, and of course as the Vice President to Ronald Reagan and ultimately as the US President. We get to see his thoughts on historical events like the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Panama invasion, Somalia, and, of course, Operations Desert Shield/Storm.But we also get to read his thoughts on infamous events like his upchucking on the Chinese Premier and the fallout from "Read My Lips" etc.

I have not read very many political autobiographies, at least not of the modern era. I figure they are pretty much attempts to justify their own actions, show things from their point of view, etc. But since this was a collection of actual letters written at the time I think that phenomenan is lessoned. Overall, I was very happy to have read this book...it was a far better experience than I was expecting. Afterall, George Bush, our 41st president is usually considered forgetable, despite Desert Storm. This is probably due to being only a one term president sandwiched between the personalities of Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. It was fascinating, however, to see what his thoughts were regarding all of the events he participated in. He spent a lifetime at or near the top of huge events in this world and that fact can be easy to forget. But more importantly than the events he describes, I was struck by the very nature of the man. This book confirmed my impressions of him, showing him to be a compassionate man, who holds high ideals, who loves his family above all else, and who tends to give everybody, even his political foes, the benefit of the doubt. Of course an arguement can be made that only the letters that showed him in a positive light were included but there is just too much here to dispute the very nature of the man himself.

Pick up this one and enjoy the journey, no matter what your political beliefs might be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not a Memoir But...
A good Way to look into George Bush Sr.Pretty long, Just Letters, And some Diary entries. A hilarious “quizography” on the dumbfounding life of George W. Bush
Pop Quiz

George W. Bush is:

the greatest American statesman since Abraham Lincoln.

a champion of the underdog and a thorn in the side of the wealthy.

articulate, thoughtful, and judicious—a very, very wise man.

linguistically challenged (“I know how hard it is to put food on your family”), proudly ignorant (he actually boasts about not reading newspapers), and inexplicably addicted to nicknaming (aide Karl Rove is “Turd Blossom”)—in short, the least qualified, most polarizing figure ever to be appointed President of the United States, and the only White House occupant to have once been videotaped picking his nose.

If you answered d, this book is for you.  In The George W. Bush Quiz Book, New Yorker humorist and bestselling author of The Clothes Have No Emperor, Paul Slansky, brings you a comical compendium of quizzes filled with hundreds of questions and answers on the personal and political life of George W. The result is a crash course in everything Dubya.

5-0 out of 5 stars hilarious!
I didn't even buy this for myself--I got it for a friend as a gift. But I couldn't help but thumb through a few pages before wrapping it up and it's hilarious! It's full of truthful information concerning that wonderful president of ours and Dick Cheney. It also has questions about what reporters and journalists have said about George Dub-ya.I highly recommend this book, it's very funny and factual!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hysterical and Terrifying
A sample question from the book:

5) What did George W. Bush say was the difference between Americans and terrorists?

A) "They're evil, we're good."

B) "They're ugly, we're pretty."

C) "You can't really simplify it like that. There are just too many factors to be considered, too many different things that happen in people's lives for me to be so presumptuous as to make some sweeping generalization."

D) "They hate things, we love things."

ANSWER:D. To put it in context: "See, we love - we love freedom. That's what they didn't understand. They hate things; we love things. They act out of hatred; we don't seek revenge, we seek justice out of love."

It's embarrassing that this man is our President.BTW, the author has a web site called stampoutbush.com.

5-0 out of 5 stars Haw haw haw
This book is as funny as it is terrifying. Can you believe this man is running America? Can you believe this man declares war? Can you believe this man considers himself a torch of hope for the world's oppressed? For those who think that the end of the world has come fear not. The Book of Revelation in the BIble clearly states that the anti-Christ will be a 'handsome and well spoken man'. At least we're somewhat safe for now.

Though this book can be a bit cumbersome, (you have to turn the book upside-down after each question to read the correct answer) the answers will ASTOUND you. Read what came from Bush's own lips as he answered questions about Vietnam, his military service, and his many failed business ventures. But the one question that is truly sad and heartbreaking is as follows. It was asked by a grade school girl...

Q. Mr. Bush, what was your favorite book when you were a child?

A. I don't remember any books in particular.

Sleep well America.

5-0 out of 5 stars shocking, hysterical, truth stranger than fiction
This book, with humor and wit, has a way of ripping the lid off a man who has lead the country into great despair.I wish this were published before he took office and handed to every church group, every republican gathering, maybe he wouldn't have been elected.Oh yeah, I forgot.. HE WASN'T.It's also great to read in jolts, like morning coffee.I bought ten copies and am giving them to all my friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book
The George W Bush Quiz Book is a savagely funny biography of the man some people recognize as the president. The quiz format makes it palatable and participatory, while the unpleasant truths that are revealed drive home the message that we each need to do everything we can to get this smug ignoramus out of office. If a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, this book is a Weapon of Mass Destruction against bully-boy Bush and his gang.Buy many copies of this book and give to everyone -- it's as good as donating to Kerry, but there's no legal limit. ... Americans have a lot of reasons to hate George W. Bush-and readers will find them all in The I Hate George W. Bush Reader. The anthology features the best writing about the myriad reasons to hate Dubya, including his bald-faced lies about everything from Iraq's "nucyular" program to his industry-written energy policy, his corporate giveaways disguised as environmental policies, his chicken-hawk militarism, his disdain for our civil liberties, and his pathetic economic record of squandered surpluses, record deficits and millions of lost jobs. In addition, there is his smug smirk, his silver-spoon incompetence, the way he butchers our language, his staff of misers, hypocrites and closet fascists like Gale Norton, John Ashcroft, Donald Rumsfeld, and Dick Cheney. The I Hate George W. Bush Reader features selections from our funniest, sharpest and most convincing political writers so that readers never again have to worry about losing an argument to a cocksure, ill-informed backer of the Pretender-in-Chief. 3-0 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag on Bush
The strength of this book is its quotes. Some humorous, some seriously arrogant, and some poignant.

There was a chapter on Ari Fleischer and his evasive tactics that served Bush II so well during press conferences.

One of the Republican whoppers that was dispelled was the fictional "Charley the janitor", an invention of Dick Armey, lately known as the wizard behind the curtain of the Tea Party.

There was another interesting piece on the Republican press and how they spin tax cuts for the wealthy to the poor and the working poor.
Then there is this quote from David Stockman on Reagan's 1981 tax bill-
"[Supply-side economics] was always a trojan horse to bring down the top rate...Do you realize the greed that came to the forefront? The hogs were really feeding."

There were some humorous mis-speak quotes from Dan Quayle that sound very similar to Bushisms made dubiously famous by Bush 41.You will find a collection of Bushisms here unrivaled by most books.

Another interesting subject was the close ties between George W. Bush and Ken Lay.

On page 393 there is a quote from Harry S. Truman-
"Republicans are....bloodsuckers with offices in Wall Street, princes of privilege,plunderers."- Harry S. Truman,1948.
Recent history suggests that Harry called that one correctly!

This book is mostly rhetoric and poorly titled but there is some very good reading from authors such as Greg Palast, Senator Robert Byrd, Stanley Kutler, and The Onion. Greg Palast contributed some investigative reporting on election 2000. Very good information that you won't find in many American news sources.

5-0 out of 5 stars the title is ironic, people
People who give this book one star because of the title are completely missing the point. It isn't real HATE - it's frustration and it's a jab at the fact that it is the conservative blowhards like rush and billo that only deal in such words. The book is full of intelligent, well reasoned, and objective essays about the failings -- be they political, moral, intellectual, etc -- of our president.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bush Buster
I will readily admit that I am no fan of Bush.In fact, the local democrats in my area refer to him as "Dumbya" and the Commander in Thief and Puppet Figurehead, sobriquets I feel he has truly earned. There are, as another reviewer on the US Amazon boards pointed out many reasons to hate and fear this "incompetent buffoon of a president," which is a chillingly apt description of Dumbya. One almost wishes he was a demagogue because one has to have some intelligence to be a demagogue.

Clint Willis has written some excellent, trenchant essays about the Commander in Thief as have other notable and distinguished authors such as Molly Ivins, Greg Palast, Michael Moore, Paul Krugman and Joe Conanson. These authors write with brilliant detail, offering levity to balance out the dire situations this president has caused.Dumbya's tenure in office is of the emperor's new clothes genre and it is long past time others admitted that the emperor is naked!Naked!

It is galling and appalling to hear the malapropisms directly from this president. It is even more alarming and horrifying to see his glaring misdeeds and atrocious administration replete with scandals. This book pulls the news pundits' reports on Dumbya and his atrocious administration and the reasons for why so many view it this way.For those who support Bush, this book will certainly provide input from a different perspective.

1-0 out of 5 stars The "I Hate America Textbook Series"
I'd have to wonder how many trees were cut down to write this dribble? On the other hand, in case it gets cold out there and I run out of logs...it could be useful. But if George Bush had the (D) after his name instead of (R), the same people who hate him would be wanting to have his baby.

1-0 out of 5 stars The title speaks volumes
Hate-filled people attract or convince very few people. At least this book is up-front about its level of rhetoric. ... Read more

Product Description
The first book to explore the religious ideals that drive the policies and politics of Bush as president and that have privately shaped Bush as a man.

More than any other president in recent years, George W. Bush's presidency is "faith based." His life demonstrates the power of faith to create change, to build a family and political career, and to shape the destiny of a nation with his leadership.

This book allows us to see how George W. Bush interjects his faith and belief in God into every detail of his life. From the President's devotional time alone each morning to his frequent incorporation of Scripture into his speeches, Bush relies upon his faith to direct his actions and goals.

In 1986, Bush responded to the Biblical conversion story of the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus by asking Jesus to be his friend, and as a result he overcame a growing dependence upon alcohol and turned to the Bible to save his marriage and his family. During his presidential campaign, he brought leading pastors to his governor's mansion to lay hands on him and pray for his future, telling them that he had been "called" to seek higher office.

From the tragedy of September 11th to the present-day conflict in Iraq, President Bush has learned to use his personal faith to help him live his life-both in office and in private. This book will inspire others to do the same. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good book to read.
He may not be perfect in the eyes of his enemy but this book will tell you what kind of a man he is. I love him before and reading this book make me respect and love him even more..God Bless President Bush.

1-0 out of 5 stars Faith in what?
Has anyone noticed that this same author wrote a book called The Faith of Barack Obama?
He makes both of these men out to be Christians because of their faith in the God of the Bible.
But the only faith that these two men share is the same faith so many so called Christians in America hold to and that is the faith in BIG GOVERNMENT.
Though using different routes both men are leading this country in the same direction-Down.
Both men believe in saving the world through the New World Order and not through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you want to vote for a true Christian and for real American values vote for the Constitution party Candidate.
Thank you

1-0 out of 5 stars What a load of crap
You "evangelical" biblethumpers really are a piece of work.George W. Bush took you for a ride -- flim-flammed you all the way and you fell for it.

Bush is a skirt-chasing, cocaine-snorting, boozing frat boy.Always was, always will be.But -- he memorized all the right phrases, told you about how he was "saved," promised to outlaw abortion and gay marriage (How's that working out for ya'?), and you dimwits fell for it.

Bush's "faith" is in the bottle and himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great revelation
Best book I've read about any president. This man was a true man of faith, and was hated for it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A true Man Of God
I am so glad that other loving Christians have taken this book and one of our finest presidents to heart.

Jesus may have said that we should turn the other cheek, but He certainly didn't mean that we should not seek revenge on the Saudis who bombed us on 9/11 by bombing Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes, thou shalt not kill, but only if someone else doesn't do it first. We are finally right in line with the teachings of Christ these days, thanks to compassionate religious men like G.W. Bush and Richard "Dick" Cheney.

Our nation's deeply held Christian values must be shared with the world, whether they like it or not. Sooner or later they will understand that there is only One God, and that He is Our God. When the Constitution talks about religious freedom, it means freedom to proselytize and keep military bases in almost every other country. It is clearly the will of God, and not the false prophets Allah or Buddha or Krishna, etc.

Jesus would be so proud of our peaceful and loving Christian ways, and above all proud of His minion and faithful servant George W. Bush. Sure, he did a lot of cocaine but that was a long time ago, and he has been Forgiven, as he will soon forgive the millions who are in jail for the same crimes he was caught but never tried for. When your family is a little closer to God, good things can happen.

While not quite as noble a President as Taft or Harding, GW will no doubt go down in history as a great man, a deep thinker committed to educating the world, and above all a committed Christian who has never lost sight of the compassion and love for ALL other people that Our Savior preached.

If only Jesus would return before the end of Bush's term, He would confirm that our present foreign policy is not only deeply Christian but almost exactly what He had in mind when promoting peace, good will, and charity. Thank God Bush found Christ before he came into office; Lord only knows what a non-Christ-loving Bush would be up to.

God Bless America, and George W. Bush. May his kind and loving Good Works continue to resonate in our markets and environment and national character long after he leaves office.

Somewhere, Jesus is smiling at the picture of G.W. Bush on His heavenly desk.
