They were recorded on my cheap little Olympus voice recorder, transferred to the computer via an analog cable, and then cleaned up manually, so they might hurt audiophiles' ears, but I think they turned out well enough. My favorites are #10 and #21, and many of the shorter ones might be fun to use as system sounds (particularly the raven as an error or shutdown sound). You will, of course, need an MP3 player to hear these. There are gaps in the numbering so that the numbers here will match the track numbers in the recorder. One might assume that a parakeet would react most strongly to the sound of other parakeets. One might also assume that it will react more strongly to bird sounds that it might hear all the time near the home; sparrows, robins, doves, etc. Or one might assume that the parakeet will react more strongly to birds it may not have heard in the past but ones it might have reason to fear such as owls, falcons or hawks. The General Procedure: The student will locate sources and record a variety of bird sounds. Local birds can be recorded in the back yard with a bit of patience. Other parakeets, parrots and similar type birds can be recorded in a local pet shop. And the internet can be searched ( WebSearch ) to find and copy sounds of hunting birds or migratory birds such as ducks and geese. These bird sounds will then be played for the parakeet to hear and its reactions carefully observed and recorded. This portion is repeated several times to verify the reactions.

The local population is very happy with that as it 'sings' a beautiful song. It's name is can hardly be pronounced: Hollandse Merel. It is supposed to mean something like "German Sparrow".
