Product Description

When a mysterious young woman named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past.Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships:one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo.Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family.

But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her . . . a past that set her on a fearful, shattering journey across the country, to the sheltered oasis of Southport. With Jo's empathic and stubborn support, Katie eventually realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards . . . and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling
This is not the typical book from Sparks. It has the underlying love story, but includes a thrilling element and goes deeper into personal lives than ever before. Couldn't put it down. Definitely Read!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
This book is absolutely fabulous. A fast, great read! Fast because I couldn't put it down once I started it. A much better read than some of Sparks' other books. I was hooked from the very beginning instead of 5 or 6 chapters in to it. Throw in the seller's super fast shipping, and excellent description of just how "used" this book was - I got a fantastic deal!! ... Read more

Product Description
#1 New York Times bestseller Nicholas Sparks turns his unrivaled talents to a new tale about love found and lost, and the choices we hope we'll never have to make.

Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life-- boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies--he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite his attempts to be neighborly, the appealing redhead seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him . . . and the presence of her longtime boyfriend doesn't help. Despite himself, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his new neighbor, and his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, THE CHOICE ultimately confronts us with the most heartwrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive? ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The definition of true love
The Choice is a heartfelt book that deals with the meaning of true love and how far you are willing to go for the one you are in love with. The characters are vividly real and I found myself wishing for my very own Travis and the closeness shared amongst the characters.Well written, and even though the end is slightly predictable I wouldn't wanted it to end any other way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life in prospective
This was an awesome book.i started it a few days ago but really got into it today.I could not put it down.I found myself falling in love with Travis (almost like cheating on my husband). This is the way that true love should be.Being put in Travis's situtaion I do not know if I could have done it either. This book truely makes you put your own life and relationship in prospetive.I will definatly be reading and watching more of Nicholas Saprks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Not all books have a happy ending, as life gives us many choices, so does Nicholas Sparks with his characters.Happy to one, may not be happy for all!!Grat read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
I have read many of Nicholas Sparks' book, and feel disappointed about this one. The first part of the book is fairly interesting, and the central character, Travis, is developed well. Gabby, his love interest, does not get the same treatment by the author. She answers mostly with brief questions. After a very few hours of their first meeting, Travis thinks to himself that she makes him laugh more than any of the women he has dated before. Absolutely nothing that the author has written for Gabby to say has been at all funny. With her quick answers to everything she says to him, and his friends she meets when she goes on a picnic and boat trip with them, leads me to believe she has any sense of humor at all (none!).

Many pages are devoted to the first few days of Travis and Gabby's first meeting. Then there is a small second section of the book about their lives together, over ten years later. Quite a lot has happened, including something to Gabby, who was so poorly developed in the first section, I find it difficult to feel much of anything about her.

I think this is my least favorite book from Nicholas Sparks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Audio production is cluttered
This review is of the audiobook version of Nicholas Sparks's "The Choice" by Hachette Book Group.Unfortunately for the story, the audiobook production was cluttered with bizarre music in the background for select scenes.I'm not talking about a few bars at the end of the disk, but what seemed like pages of dialogue and text set to music.I'm sure it was intended to "heighten the drama" or something, but it failed utterly.Instead of being able to just listen and enjoy the story, I was forced to turn up the volume and strain to hear the words above the music.

I can't speak for everyone who listens to audiobooks, but the reason I enjoy audiobooks is not because they remind me of TV!I want my audiobooks to match the experience of reading a book as closely as possible -- no sound effects, no background music. Just a good story in a format that I can enjoy when my hands and eyes aren't free for a bound book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lucky One
Wow! I really enjoyed this book.. I am the lucky one to have been able to read it, honestly in this day and age it is so nice to read a good book..Nicholas Sparks has a way of drawing you in with his characture development...I was cheering at the end....I was sad it was over and I am currently looking forward to his next book..Thank you Mr. Sparks..

3-0 out of 5 stars Relaxing read, but lacks complexity
A love story like many of the others Sparks is known for.I enjoyed the story, but found it to be a simple read. The characters weren't as developed as I would have liked and the story line was a bit thin. Never-the-less, Sparks is able to get you emotionally involved with his characters and you will want to keep reading to see what becomes of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Nicholas Sparks wins big!!This is a great book, as are all his stories!!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
WOW!! This book is EXCELLENT! It had me cryin, in suspense, angry, happy, shocked etc... You name it. This is the 2nd book I've read by Mr. Sparks and I have to say again, WOW. This one is a gripping one about faith, love, hope, redemption, & forgiveness. The journey that U.S Marine Logan Thibault takes you on is just incredible. I cannot say more about this one without giving it away, but please trust me, you have to read this book. I highly recommend this read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great characters... a few bumps
I love Nicholas Sparks. His books stay on my mind long after I finish reading them, and this book was no exception.I love the concept of this story and especially enjoyed learning about the characters with all of their human flaws.Clayton was one of the best villians I've read in a long time.He was so realistic as a control hungy, sexist, ex-husband, who was especially abusive with his police powers.Nicholas Sparks definitely did his reseach on this one.

Cons: This book is predictable with an overly dramatic ending, seemingly created directly for the big screen.I also didn't like how quickly Elizabeth turned on Logan, but that may be more of her character's flaw than a writing flaw.

Product Description
With The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, and his other beloved novels, #1 New York Times bestselling author Nicholas Sparks has given voice to our deepest beliefs about the power of love. Now he brings us the long-awaited follow-up to The Notebook-a story of an ordinary man who goes to extraordinary lengths to win back the love of his life... After thirty years, Wilson Lewis is forced to face a painful truth: the romance has gone out of his marriage. His wife, Jane, has fallen out of love with him, and it is entirely his fault. Despite the shining example of his in-laws, Noah and Allie Calhoun, and their fifty-year love affair (originally recounted in The Notebook), Wilson himself is a man unable to express his true feelings. He has spent too little time at home and too much at the office, leaving the responsibility of raising their children to Jane. Now his daughter is about to marry, and his wife is thinking about leaving him. But if Wilson is sure of anything, it is this: His love for Jane has only grown over the years, and he will do everything he can to save their marriage. With the memories of Noah and Allie's inspiring life together as his guide, he vows to find a way to make his wife fall in love with him...all over again. In this powerfully moving tale of love lost, rediscovered, and renewed, Nicholas Sparks once again brings readers his unique insight into the only emotion that ultimately really matters. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
Everyone should read this book The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks.Actually you should read all his books. My daughter got me into reading this past summer and told me about these wonderful stories. They are true to life and inspirational. The Wedding was a great book. I would of never thought how it would of ended.Great story..

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice small book
Nice book in good shape.. but I was hoping the size was going to be bigger..It is for my daughter who had gotten this one at a flea market and it ended up having pages missing...good lesson to stick with Amzon.com for book purchases!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Wedding
I absolutely loved this book. It was the perfect love story. Its about how hard a husband tries to fix his and his wifes marriage. Proving his undenying love for her was the only way. He was focused 100% on re-sparking their marriage throughout the story. In the end all of his effort payed off.

3-0 out of 5 stars the wedding
Story was just OK. I predicted halfway through the book what the whole ending was going to be. Very short story. Good if you are looking for an easy beach read or something...however not a great novel. DEFINITELY not as good as his other stories, or the prequel to The Wedding...The Notebook. If you have not read the Notebook, read that first. It plays a big part in this story.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Wedding"...
This is another awesome romance story by Nicholas Sparks, and again he didn't upset me with his story on this one. I recommend this story to everyone who enjoys reading romance stories out there. Take my word, I guarantee it. ... Read more

Product Description
There are a few things Jeremy Marsh was sure he'd never do: he'd never leave New York City; never give his heart away again after barely surviving one failed marriage; and, most of all, never become a parent. Now, Jeremy is living in the tiny town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, married to Lexie Darnell, the love of his life, and anticipating the birth of their daughter. But just as his life seems to be settling into a blissful pattern, an unsettling and mysterious message re-opens old wounds and sets off a chain of events that will forever change the course of this young couple's marriage.

Dramatic, heartbreaking and surprising, this is a story about the love between a man and a woman and between a parent and a child. More than that, it is a story that beautifully portrays how the same emotion that can break your heart is also the one that will ultimately heal it.

While the novel picks up the tale of Lexie Darnell and Jeremy Marsh that started in True Believer and will delight fans of that novel, it stands on its own as one of Nicholas Sparks's most deeply moving love stories. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars If it weren't for that sad ending...
I prefer happy endings, and Sparks continually writes unhappy endings. So, you would think that I would have quit reading his books by now. But the fact remains; I love his stories.

The main character, Jeremy, has been through one too many tough times, what with his divorce and all. Then he meets Lexie, and for a while, life is good, really good. Without giving away too much, let's just say that it doesn't last. In the end, he supposedly learns life's most important lessons as the reader goes through a box of tissues. Really, don't read this in public. You'll be blubbering all over the place.

FYI, men will probably get grossed out when reading this book since it goes into a lot of feminine detail about pregnancy and baby birthing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Story of Love and Passion
Have you ever had so much hate that it turns into an everlasting love? That's Ronnie's situation, the main character in one of my most beloved and favorite books in the whole world, The Last Song. The Last Song tells an unforgettable story about first love, and a heart-warming story about a troubled father and daughter relationship that turns into a solid bond. It has been 3 years since 17-year-old Ronnie's dad left her, her mom Kim and her 10 year old brother Jonah to live it up in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. Ronnie feels a hatred for him and now wants nothing to do with him. He lost her trust. Ronnie and her dad Mark had something magical with each other. The piano. Mark wants that back with his wonderful daughter. Now living in the big city of New York, Kim and Mark decide that it would be in Jonah's and Ronnie's best interest if they went to spend the summer with Mark in North Carolina. Resentful and rebellious Ronnie denies his attempts to reach out to her. She even threatens to leave North Carolina before summer's end, but somehow Mark weaves his way into a relationship with Ronnie. Soon Ronnie meets Will, the last guy she ever thought that she'd be with, but she finds herself falling for him. He opens her up to the most pleasure and pain that she has ever experienced in her life. The compelling characters in this novel will draw you in because of their emotions leaving you warm inside. This book will teach that love is not always something that you can hold onto. If you lose it you're lost in the world searching for something to replace it, but you can't. Love is the closest thing that we have to magic, so hold on to it. Love is the most valuable thing that you will ever find in the whole entire world. The Last Song will teach you all of these influential things. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nicholas Sparks is always great!
This book started out a bit slow for me but as always, it ending is always worth the ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
Another well written book by Nicholas Sparks.I have not read one yet that I did not like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprise ending...
Three-fourths through the book I knew that he was going to return with the girl at the very end, somehow. In this case, Doris was the one who brought them together. If she hadn't gone to New York and told Jeremy that she wasn't really going to marry Rodney, and that it was a lie, them he probably would of kept on wondering what would have happend between them. But overall, great story.

I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys reading romance novels. Take my word, I guarantee it.

3-0 out of 5 stars True Adequacy
This is the first Nicholas Sparks book I've read.Having endured the film of "Nights in Rodanthe," my nominee for Most Obvious Dumb Plot of the Year, I would not have done so without a very strong recommendation from a friend.I end with mixed feelings.
The conversations are frequently brilliant. The several pages spent trying to get simple road directions out of a local mechanic are some of the funniest I've ever read. The quirkiness and sheer likeability of the minor characers is undeniable. Boone Creek ends up being a place you'd at least want to visit, even if you can't quite picture living there. And, quite frankly, I am delighted to encounter a happy ending these days!
One of the tags given to this book is suspense, which baffles me except for the fact that by the time the nature of the cemetary hauntings was revealed, I would have been willing to beg for the secret.
It's a fast, easy, and mostly entertaining read, marred only by the main characters. Saint Jeremy Marsh is simply too good to to be believed, even by the Truest of Believers in the nobility of the male romantic lead.Lexie needs to be treated for bipolar disease, if not schizophrenia, or possibly just to be "slapped up side the head" once.
If you like this author, definitely buy this book. If you are dubious about the entertainment value of Mr. Sparks' works, you aren't going to Believe in this book, either.

Denise Holden's life is a fragile mix of luck and hard work. A single mom of a speech-delayed son, Denise makes ends meet by moving to the small town of Edenton, North Carolina, and working the late shift as a waitress. When Denise crashes her car and her son Kyle flees the accident and disappears into the storm, her only stroke of luck is the quick arrival of Taylor McAden, a volunteer fireman. Taylor's got a knack for fixing people, and he can't help wanting to be involved with Denise beyond the initial rescue of Kyle.

As Taylor helps Denise recover from the accident and get to know the town, they discover a sweet bond and a magical chemistry that pulls them closer and closer. Though Taylor fits perfectly into Denise's family, he's unable to open his heart to being loved by her. As Taylor struggles to understand his conflicting desires, Denise questions the wisdom of gambling with Kyle's and her own emotions.

Author Nicholas Sparks has found a loyal audience for his stories about the internal battles that accompany the arrival of love. His heroes may be truck-driving manly men and his heroines emotional swamis, but it's easy to overlook the traditional roles when the complexities of human relationships are so beautifully described. Sparks has found his forte, and this novel is sure to be as popular as his earlier works. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great BOok
This is the First book of Nicholas Sparks I ever read and it was wonderful one of those hard to put down books . I highly recommend this book

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Beach Read
This was my first NIcholas Sparks read, I grabbed it on our beach vacation just looking for anything as I had run out of reading material. I am not sorry I did, this story sucked me in immediately and I could not put it down. The characters are so real I love the way he builds them up and helps you to see what is going on inside them but your not confirmed until the character is willing to reveal themselves to you. I found a few of the fires a little hard to believe, the thematic elements were strong, being a fireman's wife I know some incidents were a little exaggerated but it was still gripping. And I can excuse accuracy for a good read. And this was defiantly a good read!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks
Another great story by Nicholas Sparks. He is some writer. The Rescue was a wonderful story.I just love all his books that I've read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you rethink the way you have been looking at your life
Sparks does it again! This incredible story takes you on the journey of a single mother and her son with a disability to learn a language. As she is trying to escape a storm she gets in a car ride that changes the rest of her life.

She finds herself falling for the fireman who rescued her and her son, but at the peak of their relationship he starts to pull away. Not understanding why he was acting like this she breaks up with him.

This story is amazing and as it takes you into a world that only Sparks could have written. This book is a great read for anyone interested in a great book that you can't put down.

I would however caution parents that some parts aren't very appropriate and that this book's should probably only be held in the hands of people 13 years and up.

1-0 out of 5 stars very disappointend!

i love nicholas sparks books and this is one of the best ones I,ve read. very romantic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could not put "A Bend in the Road" down from reading it...
When I approached the last few pages I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen at the end. For a second, I thought they weren't going to end up together at the end after Miles went out of town, and he wasn't going to let her know anything, by that I mean if they would end up even seeing each other after Miles found out that Sarah's brother was the killer of his late wife.

This story tells about a sheriff in New Bern, who has a son that has trouble in school after his teacher lets Miles know that he needs to speak with him. Sarah, who is Jonah's teacher, ends up working with him extra after school to help him the subjects he's struggling with.

After time, Miles starts and continues to date Sarah. That's when Sarah's brother ends up confessing to her that he killed Mile's late wife, accidentally.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading romance books. I guarantee you that you won't put this book down. Take my word.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very suspencefulromance novel!!

This is a book I couldn't put down. It was so good, a #1 New York Times Best seller. Miles Ryan is a Deputy Sheriff in New Bern. His wife, whom he truely loved and was his best friend, was killed by a hit and run accident. He is left behind to take care of his five year old son Jonah. The struggles he goes through are so suspenseful, it is a book you will not want to put down.

He falls in love after two years with a Jonah's school teacher who is so sweet and charming and very wise, they were both torn with love. Sarah the school teacher had been divorced because her husband left her when he found out she couldn't have kids, a very sad romance story. Miles and Sarah fall in love and that is just the begining.

This book is a must read you will love it, Nicholas Sparks is a great romance novelist!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Intrigue with Lingering Questions!
A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks was written in 2001.

I read a couple of books by Nicholas Sparks during the 2009 year and found that I enjoyed them so decided to read all of his books.I have just three to go and loved a few of them, but was disappointed in two of them.A Bend in the Road is terrific! This is a romance novel, as are all of his, but it has a crime involved which adds to the intrigue.

The couple who fall in love is an elementary school teacher and a deputy sheriff in a small town in some southern state. The crime that has been committed is a hit and run accident that result in the death of a lady.

Sparks does a wonderful job of explaining the emotions of all the main characters in the book, how they are affected by the death of the lady, and what decisions they make to face the future. When all finished, it makes the reader think how he/she would respond if in a similar situation.

I gave this book five stars and highly recommend it for anyone. It is not some gushy love novel supposedly only written for female readers. It moves right along and is a book that makes you want to continue on despite the fact that there might be other things to do besides keeping your nose buried in a book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nicholas Sparks
As we all know, when reading a Nicholas Sparks book, the book is going to leaving you in tears for one reason or another. This book was strange and I wasn't a big fan.In fact, it was this book that made me decide I'd rather move onto a different author all together. It had a good story line but I just didn't really like the way everything ended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Roller coaster ride
I have read all of Sparks' novels and love them all, some more than others.I have had this book in my bookcase ever since it came out several years ago.It was given to me as a gift and I just didn't think I would enjoy it as much as his novels.I just finished reading it and boy, was I ever wrong. It is an excellent read!I love the relationship Sparks has with his brother, Micah. This being his life story, it has all the ups and downs that life can have.As they say, "I laughed, I cried and I couldn't put it down."(Or something like that!)I enjoyed the way Sparks transitions between the trip and stories about his life growing up and about his family.I was able to identify with much of his life story as I have experienced some of the same sadnesses and tragedies in my life.If you are a Nicholas Sparks fan, I highly recommend this book.It gives you a background into who he is and some insight into the basis for many of his novels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Live your life to the fullest...
There's no question about this non-fictional book being a very great story about, Nicholas Sparks, himself and his brother, Micah, that went on a tour around the world to places to visit. It not only tells about being away from their wifes, and how hard it was for them being alone, especially when Catherine, Nicholas Sparks' wife, had to take care of her kids they're were all sick, including herself.

This books talks about both Nicholas and Micah, but it talks about the three deaths that occured, including their sister Dana.

And last, but not least, the Sparks' remind us to live life to the fullest.

I recommend this book to everyone out there. Take my word, I guarantee it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Change of Pace
After having read most of Nicholas Sparks' novels, I came across The Guardian.I picked it up and had trouble putting it down. The book was a complete change of pace from Sparks' other novels.I would definitely say it is his best yet, and recommend it to anyone who may not like Sparks' other works and for those that are already fans. For those of you that were unhappy with his other pieces, I suggest giving The Guardian a chance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Gross
After opening the package with the book inside there was a very gross stain on it, not sure if it was blood or ketchup I did wipe down the book with lysol wipes. Worst experience ever with an item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great read
Once again, another great book by Nicholas Sparks. Most of what I have read from him were always more romance than anything else but this book had a little extra with suspense in the story. Look forward to reading the last few books I have not yet bought and the next new one out in the Fall.

3-0 out of 5 stars Expected more from a Nicholas Sparks book
Shortly after losing her husband to cancer, Julie received a surprise gift of a puppy that her husband had arranged for her prior to his death.Years later, Julie has recovered from her grief and is back in the dating scene. She dates a few duds, and then finally meets Richard, who is sincerely interested and seems to be a nice, romantic man, but she doesn't quite feel a connection with him.She breaks things off with him, and begins dating Mike, who she considers her best friend, and who was her late husband's good friend, as well. But Richard isn't what he seemed, and begins stalking Julie.I love Nicholas Sparks' books and I love the idea of this book, but this one just fell flat. The relationship between Julie and Mike lacked chemistry and romance. And Richard's motives were shallow and contrived. All in all, the book was a good idea that just wasn't fully enough developed.Disappointing after reading and enjoying most of Sparks' books. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Delicious
I started reading this book at bedtime and found myself closing the cover well into the wee hours of the morning, unable to put it down. The story of Noah and Allie is a testament to love.Spanning a decades long relationship, The Notebook is about a love affair which has stood the test of time and is as deeply seated in love at the end of this couple's journey as it was in the beginning. As Alzheimer's exacts its toll on Allie's mind, wiping away the memories of love and family and joy, she is left with the story of her love affair with Noah, as described in his notebook.Through the story's telling by Noah, as he reads the notebook to Allie, we learn of the stormy beginning and the relationship that almost wasn't.We feel the passion and fire of first love and the trials and tribulations they endure when it comes to an end.But though having spent years apart, neither are able to forget the other and when good fortune tosses these two back together, the chemistry between these characters is as alive and vibrant as in the beginning.

Allie and Noah's love endures and they live their happily ever after. But the true gift of this story is that the reader gets to move beyond the fairytale end experience the peaks and valleys of "ever after".Heart-wrenching and hopeful, this book has earned a permanent place on my bookshelf.Sparks clearly is a wonderful storyteller with a tremendous grasp on the complex nature of love and human nature.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the movie...
The book was good but if you love the movie you won't love the book... it is a love story but not from the same angle... I was disapointed in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best I've ever read
This is one of those books I read over and over, from the very first page, the very first line I am still moved beyond anything I've ever known. It is very possibly the best book I've ever read. To know a love like this, ever how brief cannot be described by mere mortals in our feeble words, but Nicholas Sparks does so beautifully.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why am I crying?
I asked myself that question, "why am i crying", for about an hour while i read the last 50 or 60 pages of this book. It's not that it was particularly sad at the moment, it was just the whole situation. It's just a beautiful book and very easy to read. It's a love story that shows that love reigns above all: the rest of the world, time, diseases. Awesome book. 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest love story ever told.

Product Description
There was a time when the world was sweeter....when the women in Beaufort, North Carolina, wore dresses, and the men donned hats.... Every April, when the wind smells of both the sea and lilacs, Landon Carter remembers 1958, his last year at Beaufort High. Landon had dated a girl or two, and even once sworn that he'd been in love. Certainly the last person he thought he'd fall for was Jamie, the shy, almost ethereal daughter of the town's Baptist minister....Jamie, who was destined to show him the depths of the human heart-and the joy and pain of living. The inspiration for this novel came from Nicholas Sparks's sister: her life and her courage. From the internationally bestselling author Nicholas Sparks, comes his most moving story yet....Amazon.com Review
In the prologue to his latest novel, Nicholas Sparks makes the ratherpresumptuous pledge "first you will smile, and then you will cry," butsure enough, he delivers the goods. With his calculated ability to throwyour heart around like a yo-yo (try out his earlier Message in theBottle or The Notebook if you really want to stick it toyourself), Sparks pulls us back to the perfect innocence of a first love.

In 1958 Landon Carter is a shallow but well-meaning teenager who spendsmost of his time hanging out with his friends and trying hard to ignore theimpending responsibilities of adulthood. Then Landon gets roped into actingthe lead in the Christmas play opposite the most renowned goody two-shoes in town: Jamie Sullivan. Against his best intentions and the tauntsof his buddies, Landon finds himself falling for Jamie and learning somecentral lessons in life.

Like John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Sparks maintains adelicate and rarely seen balance of humor and sentiment. While the plot maynot be the most original, this boy-makes-good tearjerker will certainlyreel in the fans. Look for a movie starring beautiful people or, betteryet, snuggle under the covers with your tissues nearby and let your inner saprun wild. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's the innocence that really gets you
Not a fan of Sparks novel I nevertheless admire his success in the literary world, it takes a tremendous amount of work and luck to make it to the top. Personally, I find his stories cliche and his writing not so good, but there are plenty of people who enjoy his books, so it's only a matter of taste. "A Walk To Remember" is a sweet book, there's not much I can say about it. If you feel like you want to get away from the loud and offensive world of Kardashians, pick up this book. A bad-boy with a good heart, which he hides well to appear to be cool in front of his friends, meets a girl who becomes a real challenge for him. He doesn't like her, he is embarrassed to be seen with her, he hurts her feelings until she captures his heart and tames him (something even Bella Swan couldn't manage to do with her vampire)! How many times have we heard this story? Too many, but then there isn't that much new in this world and Sparks manages to create a sweet, loving, at times heartbreaking atmosphere. Be warned- the ending is not what you'd expect! I skipped the last pages, because it got too sugar coated for me: the good were very good, and the bad repelled and became very good as well.
But either way, I'd pick this book over what's on TV these days.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I know that people always say that the movie is different from the book. And most will also say that the book is better than the movie.I usually agree, but this book was an exception. In fact, I think it's the only book/movie combo where I've actually liked the movie more.

Nicholas Sparks is an amazing author. His books are easy to read, yet the stories pull you in.The thing that I just could not get over with this book was how different it is from the movie.

I watched "A Walk to Remember" when it first came out, and since then it's been, hands down, my favorite movie.I love everything about it.So I just knew that I would love the book...but when I started reading the book, it was completely different. It's set in a different era; Landon isn't a "bad boy", Jamie's father wrote the play and Landon volunteered to be in it; they didn't have all of the sweet dates that helped her accomplish things on "her list"; Landon's parents were still together; and on and on and on.It was a COMPLETELY different book. The over-all moral of the story was the same, but practically all of the details were different.

That being said, I probably would have loved the book and hated the movie if I read it first. The actual book wasn't bad--it was just too different in my opinion.Since I've loved the movie for so long, the book wasn't what I thought it would be.However, I have a really good friend who loved the book before she saw that movie and she feels completely opposite.

To sum all of this up:If you love the movie, know that the book is completely different before you start it or you'll be disappointed. If you haven't seen the movie, read the book because it really is well-written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book...A Walk To Remember
Nicholas Sparks is one of my favorite authors.A Walk To Remember is one of the best books he has written. It is not too long, so it is good for just cuddling up in a big overstuffed chair on a rainy day.It would also be an excellent book for a reading group because, unlike most books, it has questions for discussion by a group or to ponder on your own. This is a very good read and I would recommend it to anyone from teenagers to senior adults.

4-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful book but dont watch the movie first
I was told to watch the movie by a friend I did and absolutely loved it so I picked up the book ,and while I really liked the book I was disappointed to find it completely different from the movie only a few things from the movie happened in the book, so just wanted to let everyone know cause the book is great on its own and so is the movie but to let everyone know they are pretty much two different things! I am now a fan of mr. sparks but i will read the book before I watch the other movies so I am not disappointed like that again ... don't get me wrong the book is amazing

4-0 out of 5 stars <3
This book was so good! I'm not a big crier when I read books but this one i almost did. So touching! I saw the middle and end of the movie and knew I had to get the book! In my opinion the movie might have been a little better because the book was a little slow moving. Other then that this book is a must read for anyone a teen or above. .....love Nicholas Sparks and this is one of my favorites. :) ... Read more

This is probably one of his best work. I truely enjoyed reading it. LOVED IT! highly recommend this book!
it's very upsetting but it's worth reading it. trust me .. and read it before you watch the movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars My First Sparks Novel
This is the first Nicholas Spark novel I have read.I've seen the movie version of "The Notebook" (one of my favorite movies) and "Nights in Rodanthe", which I enjoyed.I saw this book selling for fifty cents at a used book store and figured I'd give it a try, as usually the book is better than the movie.

I was surprised at how quickly I read through this book. I haven't read a fiction book in a long time and found myself inspired to pick it up two nights in a row.I probably finished it in about 4 or 5 hours.

Even though it wasn't all that deep, I really enjoyed it. And though I knew the ending before I even picked up the book, tears flowed freely at the end (I did however, like the ending of the movie better. The scene where she sits waiting for him after cooking an amazing meal was so sad and I was really surprised at the ending.)

I liked it enough that I want to read more of Spark's novels.I am definitely going to read another one very soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nights in Rodanthe...
This is another great well-written novel by Nicholas Sparks. "Nights in Rodanthe" is an awesome love story about a man and woman named Adrieene who meet up at a motel. Adrieene had been looking over the motel for her friend. Over a weekend, they get to know one another better and Adrienne falls in love with Paul. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys romance stories. Read and find out what happens at the end.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you find this bottle, throw it back in the ocean!!!
This is the story: Divorcee Theresa, 36, writes a column about childrearing and dotes on her 12 year old son. One day she is jogging and ruminating vainly over her decent but aging appearance when up from the shore washes a bottle full of the most sentimental tripe imaginable. The message is from an amorous Garret to a dear lost Katherine. It is "so beautiful" that Theresa and her friend cry and cry. Theresa, so touched that a man could love a woman with such unabashed sentimentallity and wanting very much to believe in a monogamous universe full of lovestruck men, covets the letter writer for her own and starts to look for him. Later, they fall in love and then it doesn't work out so they send one final message in the bottle to each other, etc. But their parting is a thank you to each other, i.e."cool breeze on my cheek will always be your spirit.."
Now I am normally a mild mannered librarian, but I found myself fervently hoping that the main character would die and this would turn into a murder mystery.I kept thinking, "is he serious?" I don't think he is, for this is one hilariously maudlin book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great plot, but a flawed story
I have to admit that I am a sucker for sad love stories: Forbidden love, couples torn apart by circumstance, tragic love stories, stories of loss. I much prefer these to happy endings because, in Romeo and Juliet style, they are just much more profound and moving and have the ability to effect you on a much deeper level.

Such was the case with the plot in this story. Savannah & John are a couple torn apart by circumstance. I think it is incorrect of the reader to judge the characters or place blame, that is not what the book is about. Instead, I felt like this was couple torn apart by circumstances in their lives, seemingly by some force beyond their control. And it is a story about having unconditional love for another, sacrificing oneself and one's own happiness for another.

I enoyed the book and the ending (which by the way hinted at many things whereby one may come to their own conclusions about the fate of the characters). I thought it was a fantastic plot that unfolded well, but I felt the way the story was told was lacking. I was not convinced of the intense love the characters shared in their brief encounter which served as the basis of their entire relationship. There was nothing particularly magical, mesmerizing, or extraordinary about the way the couple met or the moments they shared (in fact many of those moments were filled with flaws). I did not find myself moved, and often wondered what it was that carried their relationship for so long. The intensity was not there for me and I found the rest of the story to be a bit contrived.

On a side note, the book focuses quite a bit on Autism and its symptoms. Having a sibling with autism and being a professional in the field, I was glad to see this, but was dissappointed by the portrayal of Alan. People with autism lack the emotional connection to others, and Alan's intense loyalty and concern for his brother and awareness of the seriousness of his condition was not something characteristic of the disorder.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book
This book was touching as I am a military spouse and have gone through similar emotions as the female in this book. I recommend this to anyone who wants the true feelings behind not just a military relationship but also a true love story. Nicholas Sparks is my all time favorite writer of love stories and I recommend ANY of his books to those seeking a great love story told realistically.

2-0 out of 5 stars LOVE John Tyree, hate Savannah - spoilers
I really loved the character of John Tyree but could not stand Savannah. She did not deserve such a man. What a horrible ending for this book, though I am very glad John did not get stuck with her for the rest of his life.He deserves so much better.

The only reason I gave this book 2 stars was because I cared for John so much, and for his father, too.In fact, in my mind, the love story of this book was between John and his dad.

Whatever you do, DO NOT listen to this audiobook. The narrator is HORRIBLE.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Mixture Between Love and Sadness
"Dear John by Nicholas Sparks was about a heart broken love story. About no matter how passionate love can be, long distant relationships don't always work out.

I loved this book, it was a great mixture of love and sadness. After the first chapter, I was hooked..."

5-0 out of 5 stars A Lasting Lesson
I didn't know what to expect from this book and as I read it I was continually drawn in by the authors style of the telling of his experience.I assume it is his experience because of the directness of the story being told.A wonderful book providing tools for anyone who wants to be happy in life and has the ears to hear. The beauty is in the basic approach of just being human and how we relate to the world around us. A spirit journey in the finest sense. I want to present gift copies to everyone I love; especially my kids.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad Motivational/Inspirational Book
I can't help but wonder who the target audience is/was intended for this book.At times it read very smoothly; other times I felt like it was written in an uncreative/predictable manner. It made a lot of good points; I valued a lot of the lessons and advice.I just felt like the whole story about David, the presence of his sister's spirit, etc could have been left out and it would have been just as good.I learned quite a bit; I just wasn't awed.I think there are better motivational books out there besides Wokini.

5-0 out of 5 stars logical, practical, enjoyable, and readable
When my grandmother died I had to go through her things, and I found not one but two copies of this book. Out of curiosity I read it, and was very moved and at the same time felt enlightened. I really wish that I couldtalk to her about this story, and regret that I didn't know her wellenough, because anyone who appreciates this story is on the right path asfar as I'm concerned. I am a Christian and I am not Native American, butthose things really don't matter as the only thing you need to have whenreading this is your desire to search, to learn more of yourself and theworld. You will get out of this book much more than you spend on it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fate Has Led Me to This Story Once Again

A great book to give and to keep!

5-0 out of 5 stars The most inspiring and enlightening book I could recommend
I was not prepared for the dramatic change in my outlook and self-awareness after I read Wokini. I couldn't put it down, and I even took notes. Wokini answers the who, what, where, why, when, and how, ofhappiness. I bought extra copies to give to my family and friends, and Ihope they pass thir copies along to their loved ones.Wokini is such aneasy book to read. The spiritual journey described in the book carried youfrom place to place looking for not only answers but questions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicholas Sparks with a Twist!
There is nothing this man has written that I didn't love. I was so happy to dive into another one. If you love the "love story" in each of his books, then this will not disappoint. It also involved the bond between a human and her dog (another love story). What sets The Guardian apart from his past work is that this is a love story with a twist of suspense. Couldn't put it down, and as always, hated for it to end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book
Wow, this is definately a good book!!I love all of Nicholas Sparks books, but this one was really good.I highly recommend this book! You'll laugh and cry with this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Guardian
A privilege to read this book. Mr. Sparks has a gift of using the English language touchingly. He goes though so many emotions while keeping it a pageturner, yet a glorious experience for the reader - and the animal lover.Reader will not put it down for long

5-0 out of 5 stars New Side to Sparks
This is by far the most captivating of any Nicholas Sparks book. This is truely a different style for Sparks which he greatly excels at. The characters in this book are very relatable and the plot continually draws the reader in which every page.

The Guardian has the usual love story that we all love of Nicholas Sparks but this time, the romance is wrapped up in a thriller which will leave you on the edge of your seat. Typical of Sparks other books, Julie (main character of The Guardian) must make a difficult decision of choosing between two men: the handsome, wealthy and somewhat mysterious man or the down to earth, friendly "good friend". Her decision will set her life spinning into danger. I read this book in two days and wish Nicholas Sparks would write more suspense. This book definitely gets an A++!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story!
Another wonderfully written novel by Nicholas Sparks!

As most of his stories are, this one is a bit of a tear jerker as not to disappoint the fans. LOL

No spoiler alerts here...just know that this is a wonderful read for a rainy day, a day at the beach, or, anytime you just want to settle with a cup of hot tea and relax. And it SHOULD come equipped with a box of tissues!

I highly recommend this book!

Ordered from this seller with no problems. Received book in used condition as described, (which was very good), and in a very timely manner. I recommend this seller. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars too sad and depressing
I gave this book 4 stars because of the very ending. It is a great novel as far as suspense, love, and a sweet dog named Singer(The Grardian).I love the way Nicholas Sparks writes and I should have known what the ending would be, but I kept hoping this one would end good, and it could have, and still been an excellent book.I just can't read anymore of these sad books of his that leave me feeling depressed and sad.Needless to say this one was most depressing of them all.I am still crying for Singer.

5-0 out of 5 stars susan's review
let me start off by saying this book is very intense, julie's husband died 4 years ago now she's ready to date again she meets richard and the guy isn't who you think he is. julie thinks "he doesn't rock her boat" and breaks up with him and goes out with mike but richard doesn't take it all that well and begins to stalk her and nearly kills one of her friends but thats not all there's so much intensity you'll feel chills down your spine. It's hard to explain this book but ya got to read this. ... Read more
