Product Description
What do a writer, an artist, and a bartender all have in common? A blue mountain pottery ashtray, two rolls of duct tape, one vicious and rodent-like dog, and a fondness for the drink. The last time Mickey saw Dillan, her infatuation for him was annihilated by the sight of a violently rocking van. Now he is passing through town, and Mickey is not terribly pleased. All Martin knows is how to mix a drink and secretly lust after Mickey. He certainly never dreamed he would learn first-hand how much damage can be inflicted on a human head with a horribly tacky ashtray. Head trauma patients accused of hospital gift-shop robbery, living and breathing bartenders buried in shallow and sandy graves, and writers scrubbing blood stains out of carpeting are the themes in Small Dog. When all is said and done, all that matters is who’s pouring the next drink. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Blood Extracts A Heavy Price
The darkness that lurks in any man is the theme of this interesting and sometimes, erotic, thriller. The sex is relegated to a secondary role in order for the author to focus on the dark forces in any man. Any person can be driven to kill in the right circumstances; the real question is just how far do you have to push someone.

The mother of his old love, Mrs. Longten, contacts Robert. Mrs. Longten, overwhelmed by emotion, tearfully tries to tell him of Dana's breakdown and hospitalization in the nearby Levinson Institute. According to Mrs. Longten as well as the treating physician, Dr. Morgan, Dana has attempted suicide several times over the last few years. According to everything Robert is told, a violent, suicidal Dana who won't speak has replaced the happy Dana that he knew and secretly loved. Her only sign of communication is her artwork in which she repeatedly draws pictures of Robert.

Robert agrees to see Dana in an attempt to help her. It turns out that she always loved him as well and the sight of him appearing before her changes her outlook on everything. She reacts to Robert completely differently than what he was led to believe she would do and he can see the old Dana, the one he knew and loved, lurking within the terrified woman.

While Dana is definitely in trouble, her situation is far different than what he was led to believe by all involved. With almost no one to help him he must try to figure out exactly what is going on. Along with trying to help Dana he also must find some way to resolve some of the past involving her and his brother Dennis.

With roots in the past stretching tentacles into the present, this is an interesting and complex thriller. It is dark, but very enjoyable and has a rather surprising twist at the end. If your only interest is in sex acts on the printed page, then this one is really not for you. But if you are interested in a complex story probing the limits of love and humanity, then this one is right for you. ... Read more

Product Description

States of Rage permeate our culture and our daily lives. From the anti-Catholic protests of ACT-UP to the political posturing of Al Sharpton, from the LA Riots to anti-abortion gunmen murdering clinic personnel, the unleashing of rage, marginalized or institutional, has translated into dead bodies on our campuses and city streets, in our public buildings and in our homes.Rage seems to have gained a currency in the past decade which it previously did not possess. Suddenly we appear willing to employ it more often to describe our own or others' mental states or actions.Rage succinctly describes an ongoing emotional state for many residents and citizens of the United States and elsewhere.

States of Rage gathers for the first time a critical mass of writing about rage--its function, expression, and utilities. It examines rage as a cultural phenomenon, delineating its use and explaining why this emotional state increasingly intrudes into our social, artistic, and academic existences. What is the relationship between rage and power(lessness)? How does rage relate to personal or social injustice? Can we ritualize rage or is it always spontaneous? Finally, what provokes rage and what is provocative about it?Essays shed light on the psychological and social origins of rage, its relationship to the self, its connection to culture, and its possible triggers.

The volume includes chapters on violence in the workplace, the Montreal massacre, female murderers, the rage of African- American filmmakers, rage as a reaction to persecution, the rage of AIDS activists, class rage, and rage in the academy.
